That’s a great topic for discussion, magog2, but I wonder how much politicizing will be done with it and start more heated arguments than Casey Anthony. If more people want to input their thoughts, I’m game.

get me out please!

Mr Knechel, would you mind getting me out of the filter?

I wish you goodnight!

Ina… it’s just 10 o’clock. That’s too early for you.
magog2 // March 4, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Oops I meant to put $18 million dollars not $18 . that was in my 9:15 post
Weezie // March 4, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Magog till they get the Mexican’s staying on their side of the border, and start to manufacture goods that are relevant and competitive, jobs just aren’t going to be so easy to come by. The techies made their money a while back, the oil barrons also, so now it’s going to be a GOING GREEN resurrection, where you will find jobs.
magog2 // March 4, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Dave,
It’s possible that it would wake us all up to the fact of what is going on here in America. We can all give an opinion . No need to get all heated up about it. We are all adults I believe. It’s just I am sick of Casey Anthony and the discussions about her on here is like beating an ole horse to death.
JMO . Or maybe we could discuss politicians. That should draw a lot of interest.
Marinade Dave // March 4, 2009 at 4:33 pm
I wondered what you meant there, magog2.
Marinade Dave // March 4, 2009 at 4:44 pm
I didn’t get heated over anything, magog2. I said I would be game if anyone else wants to add to it. Read my comment again. All I said was that some people get very heated over the subject. Not me, or I would have already. If I take the blog into a different direction, away from the Anthonys, I don’t want to write about the depressing state of the economy and the bailout. The bailout is extremely politically charged. What I did recommend is that you really bring it up on the OPEN FORUM thread. If you start getting a few responses, I’ll start a brand new page on the subject, but remember something important about the Anthony subject. It has created a stir around the world and many of the comments come from out of the country. Those responders wouldn’t necessarily comment about an American fiscal crisis that is so political. Democrats against Republicans.
Kari // March 4, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I certainly have an opinion on the bailout, it scares me spitless!!! I just can’t believe that forcing the government to spend more than ever before is the right answer to a lot of very greedy and short-sighted kings of commerce…
But I freely admit that I haven’t got any real knowledge to debate with. The people who should know, the economists and politicians, seem to be in favor of this bailout, so we lay-people must just try and have faith, I guess.
Anyway, I have to agree that the whole subject is pretty depressing and far too sordidly real for group discussion, in my opinion. Not too mention that, if one person in twenty has any real understanding or knowledge to share, it would be surprising. All we can do is echo what we’re told and speak our own gut reactions. Or that’s all I can do. Maybe I’m just an ignorant minority? If anyone does have a good understanding, I would be delighted to listen to their explanations…
Marinade Dave // March 4, 2009 at 5:32 pm
I agree, Kari. Besides, I stink at economics. I couldn’t even begin to write about the mess, let alone understand any of it.
detwill39 // March 4, 2009 at 9:23 pm
I never discuss religion or politics so that leaves me out.
Beatrice // March 4, 2009 at 10:17 pm
I would be interested in opinions: Are we headed into
socialized medicine? I think we are in the first move.
However, not familiar with what effect it has. Do they
have SM in Canada and what do the people think there?
Kari // March 5, 2009 at 1:54 am
Beatrice, I fear we are well down the road to socialized medicine, and no way to turn back. If you are older than 25 you can remember, maybe, that doctor appointments, and most medicines, did not cost more than, say,20%-30% of your paycheck. (well, my paycheck, then)
That is, merely 15 years ago I was paying around 30$-40$ for a doctor’s office visit, and maybe 15$-25$ for a prescription. Now, I am danged lucky to see a doctor for 90$-125$, and prescriptions are another 50$-100$.
This is the simple and direct result of the pernicious spread of health insurance! No one goes without health insurance any more. Insurance companies demand that doctors should be ‘competitive’ in the pricing of services, and that they may be sued if the results are not satisfactory. Sounds good, right?
Sounded good at the time, apparently, good enough that everyone bought into it. And now what have we got? Doctors who are so scared of being sued that they really don’t dare to diagnose anymore, instead they order slews of expensive tests and make recommendations based on the test results. Doctors and hospitals that have learned to use the insurance system so well, that they make up for all the cheaping out the insurance companies demand by charging more for other things and encouraging people to undergo many formerly optional tests, checkups, treatments–all for your own good, you know!
The worst of this is that we have utterly done away with the public perception of the ‘art of medicine’. We no longer want our doctors to be humans, using their own brains and hearts and drawing on their experiences to diagnose and treat us. Now, we only believe in science, as expressed by computers in the form of reams of printouts… This is a horrible mistake, and I fervently hope that something can be done about it, preferably within our lifetimes…
Meantime, if I must see a doctor, I do my homework first, and go in with an idea about what medicines I might like to try for my ailment.
Newbie // March 5, 2009 at 8:31 am
I guess I am lucky. My primary care physician will tell me what she thinks and then smiles and says, “you know we have to do tests to make sure.” lol
magog2 // March 5, 2009 at 9:22 am
Dave,
When I said we shouldn’t get all heated up about any discussions regarding religion & politics I meant we can give our opinions and not upset anyone. I know there is so much going on out there in the world but people like me want to know why there is so much unemployment here in America and now a friend of mine over the Canadian border just got laid off from his job too. What can be done to better our economy? Building bridges and roads just isn’t going to do it. Here in Vermont is one of the largest furniture makers, Ethan Allen, and they are laying off half of their employees. By the way the Saudis own Ethan Allen and so many companys here in the US you wouldn’t believe it. I am really concerned as to what is going to happen to all of us who have worked so hard all of our lives and we may end up loosing all of our investment retirement money. I think the prez should not rush into these bailouts. I don’t think they are going to work anyway. No jobs no one buys or pays their bills.
magog2 // March 5, 2009 at 9:40 am
OK I read all the comments about the enconomy. I will speak of it no more. You are right Dave a lot of the people who are on this blog aren’t from the US. I just had a idea in my brain that someone may have been interested. Oh well I will have to find an enlightening subject. The Anthony case isn’t nor the Hayleigh case nor the Duckett case. It is so sad these children are missing or dead. Now THAT is depressing. I cannot for the life of me think of anything interesting to write about on a open forum. mmmmm can someone think of anything? Talking about one’s illness is depressing, we all have those problems. Can someone suggest something new???
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 9:51 am

Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:07 am
I am trying to find a way to clear my historythat is haunting me apparantly. Not that I have some sodded past, but my laptop can’t handle it somehow. Cache?
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:10 am
I did google Dick Foran. I think I must have seen him in Rawhide.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:19 am
Remember the series where they, for some sinister reason, always had to move around a whole hurd of skinny cows, from one foresaken spot to another, right across dangerous desserts, rivers and Apache-land?
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:27 am
So, you’ve seen Dick Foran before? He starred opposite Humphrey Bogart in Petrified Forest. He was also the handsome hero in 2 Abbott & Costello movies, plus he was in countless westerns and war movies.
You ready to clear out your cache?
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:29 am
I must have seen him. I can’t recall though
How do I clear a cache?
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:31 am
Herd of cattle, not hurd of cows. Apache territory, yes, Indian country.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:36 am
Never heard of hurd huh. Scary was that, those Indians.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:37 am
I liked the cook though. Do you know what to do about that cache and such…?
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:41 am
At the top of the browser (Firefox) you see the usual commands:
File Edit View History etc. When you see Tools, click on it and a box drops down and opens. Go down to Clear Private Data… and click on it. Once there, you have different option boxes you can click to change your settings. You want these options checked on:
Browsing History
Saved Form and Search History
Cache
Authenticated Sessions
The others you can leave off. Then, click Private Data Now, wait until the box disappears, quit Firefox and restart it and let me know if it is any faster. If not, there is another place I’ll take you.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:41 am
Film Indians were so not realistic, but we didn’t know that. Here. It took a long time to realize the history of those people was a lot different and their faith very unfair.
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:42 am
Yes, Hollywood depictions of Indians was to unfair.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:43 am
I hope you will take me somewhere expensive
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:44 am
I have no tools, I will have to find a translation.
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:45 am
You can’t miss the commands. No matter what language, they start in the upper left corner. The first one says File. Tools should be just to the left of Help. Remember, I am talking about the Firefox browser, not another application.
Newbie // March 5, 2009 at 10:48 am
Ina…I missed you right underme….you are like a split personality….the other lady didn’t register.

yes it did I think.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:53 am

Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 10:53 am

Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:54 am
I will. I will try gb.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 10:56 am
I could get in really fast. Amazing. Was that the problem do you think? (I never believe doctors right away too if the have the right medication.)
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 11:04 am
That could have been the problem. You need to go in there and do that whenever it starts to get sluggish. As with auto mechanics, you always start with the easiest way to fix the problem and work your way into more complex areas. A mechanic is not going to remove the engine and tear it apart only to find out you merely needed spark plugs. That is just an analogy.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:07 am
I don’t fit in a laptop I think.
Toussaint is ever so envious that he didn’t know this. He takes it as a man though.

Tell Toussaint that I didn’t wake up one morning knowing it. Someone had to tell me at some point.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:08 am
I have to watch tv now, some people I know are on.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:18 am
Short item
They looked thinner, I thought tv made you look bigger? Were you ever on tv?
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 11:27 am
Yes, several times. On the news. WESH & WFTV.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:28 am
On the news? What had you done…
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 11:36 am
I didn’t do anything. They just wanted to interview me. I used to know all of the big shots in town that worked on radio and TV. Anchors, news directors, reporters, DJs, journalists. One, Bill Bauman, went on to become the general manager at WESH. He recently retired. Great guy, I assure you. Plus, I’ve been interviewed in the Orlando Sentinel, but that was years ago. Most of those people I met through my old friend, Wayne Trout, who died a few years ago. I mentioned him at the beginning of the Courting Miss Daisy post with a link to what I wrote right after he passed away. Mark Middleton and Bill Shafer, from GB, were both anchors and reporters for WESH before they left to start that website.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:40 am
Aha. So you have connections
What was the interview about, do you still have it? I have been interviewed once about my work as a writer, lost that.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 11:51 am
I will find out later
Must cook now.
I want to ask something first though: Can anyone tell me why everywhere in the world, soldiers always have to walk in pass? You know, all exactly the same? What is the use?
I saw some marching on tv. It struck me how odd it is.
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I was interviewed for different reasons, mostly for political opinion.
Soldiers march in formation because it shows discipline and readiness. They are extremely focused on their work and attention to every detail.
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 12:30 pm
They are drilled you mean not to think
Ina // March 5, 2009 at 12:33 pm
I wouldn’t want to think if I had to march for hours.
Well have fun here!
Beatrice // March 5, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Kari, Your response is very very well put together in whole. I am going to print it out and keep. You really bring it all home in respect to the doctors position in treating requires them to test, test, test to protect. Sometimes I feel like that will be my demise is one of those tests. I have asked why they just don’t do the one big whammy test to begin with instead of going step by step. The blood, the sputum, the x-ray, the ecogram, the octogram (is that a test) CT, the MRI and on and on.
After all those they most often will tell you it is just a
virus and it will just have to take it’s course. The doctor
won’t even call a cold a cold anymore because they could
get sued. Oh, and if you go to emergency, busy or not
you have to be there for so many hours before they can
make any money off a visit. I have concern that in SM
we do not have a choice of what Dr. we see. Thank you
Kari for how well you came thru with your info.
Newbie, you are lucky, most would not express what they “think” could be wrong.
Beatrice // March 5, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Forgot one thing. The Anthony case is being well diagnosed from head to toe. We are not afraid of being sued. Can
we be? Dave, can we?
Newbie // March 5, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Beatrice…..yes, I think I am extremely lucky. She’s also fairly young so she won’t be retiring !!
Marinade Dave // March 5, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Beatrice, I am not in any way worried about getting sued. These are all opinions, unless stated from released documents. There’s nothing to be afraid of.

Marinade Dave // March 6, 2009 at 9:11 am
You probably have a lot of temp files. You might want to optimize it sometime or defrag, but in the meantime, I’m going to reboot. Then, I want to send you to a software sight called CCleaner. Give me about 5 minutes…

Marinade Dave // March 6, 2009 at 9:55 am
I e-mailed you CCleaner. Download it to your Desktop. On the installation, you can choose your language. Quit your browser(s) first. When the option window opens, click:
-Add Desktop Shortcut
-Recycle Bin options
Nothing else
It will install in the Program Files folder. After it does that, double click the new desktop icon to start. After it opens, click the Analyze button and let it run. After it finishes, click Run Cleaner. It will show you how many MB are cluttering up your HD. When it is done, it will ask you if you want to save the file. Just say no.
Ina // March 6, 2009 at 9:59 am
It is here, but my outlookexpress won’t open it. It says it is unsafe?
Marinade Dave // March 6, 2009 at 10:01 am
It is not unsafe. I use the program whenever I slow down. Microsoft doesn’t like peripheral software.
Ina // March 6, 2009 at 10:02 am
I am going to try and see if I can download it without a virus from Internet.

A cover. What are lace doilies??
Ina // March 7, 2009 at 3:47 pm
And what is ta ta…:) ?
Night!
So many questions. I am sooo glad my bed is waiting for me
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Ta ta is a way of saying good bye, like toodle-oo. Ta tas are also slang for breasts.

Steak tata …raw steak. uck
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 5:49 pm
Well, I thought you had fallen off the face of the earth, so I went ahead and made a post.
How was the movie?
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Yum, I love it.
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 5:55 pm
It was entertaining. You know, typical Indiana Jones adventure. Instead of Nazis, it was late 50’s Soviet spies.
Could you send me the link to your new post? It opens a lot faster than going through the main page.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Will do…did you see the Crystal Skull?
I saw that, it was good, but not as good as Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 6:43 pm
Don’t you have a readomattic?
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Yes, that’s the one I saw. Since then, I’ve been trying to clean up the computer. It’s been giving me some minor problems today.
I didn’t get a link.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Well, I’ve tried twice to send the link…it will only allow once.
BTw…have you glanced at one particular protesters blog lately? She is claiming the difference between Haleigh’s case and Caylee’s case is wealth…like Rich Man Poor Man. Lol!
It is truly disturbing.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Just go into WordPress…it should be on the front page.
BTW, this page is getting rather long, don’t you think?
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 7:00 pm
I found the link. I didn’t see it in the spam folder.
I have Readomattic. I just wanted it here so other people could find it.
I guess I will have to move the OPEN FORUM page soon. The last one got up to 1,000 comments before I put it to bed.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Well, you can erase the other…I’m not trying to switch others off your blog…just trying to get the link to go through.
However, if you want to move over to my blog, that is okay with me. I have links in the sidebar and videos, which is why it takes so long to load my blog, but, they are there for discussion and you are more than welcome to use them.
You are much better at discussion than I am.
I found another document that you didn’t have posted…it has some dooseys in it!
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 7:18 pm
What document is that?
I don’t mind if people go to your blog. That’s what we are all about, the exchange of information and sharing of sites. And, I’ve already been there.
I commented, too.
Thinker Belle // March 7, 2009 at 7:29 pm
It’s under the link Casey duplicate I think…I haven’t read it all. I’m on muscle relaxers as of yesterday, and they really knock me out. But, I am going to attempt to read them soon.
Marinade Dave // March 7, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Saw a picture on news of a new baby gorilla, born recently.
I keep wondering why it does not look more like us humans
since we have evolved from them.
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Beatrice, I read somewhere once that the reason humans have more back problems is because we have no tail. Lol!
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Dave, I just now saw your 7:34 post of last night.
Yes, I am okay. I think I have pulled a shoulder muscle in my sleep; my Dr. thinks it may be arthritis in the neck. I’m hoping I am right and she is wrong!
It is very painful in the center of and the very top of my shoulder. I know this pain because I have pulled tendons before.
Marinade Dave // March 8, 2009 at 6:28 pm
I am sorry to hear that, Thinker Belle. I have pain sometimes in my neck that stems from a car accident a long time ago. I never went to the hospital or said anything about it and, getting older now, it comes back to haunt me once in a while.
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Yeah, but it isn’t actually my neck that hurts…it is my shoulder. Guess she is thinking nerves and all.
I am like that with a toothache…couldn’t tell you which one if a nerve is hurting.
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Would you believe I have never been in a major auto accident? Most who have ridden with me find that very hard to believe! Lol!
Marinade Dave // March 8, 2009 at 7:37 pm
So, Thinker Belle, you are a scar-less, unblemished woman? Have you ever fallen off a horse?
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Probably Dave, but I doubt anyone ever saw it…one never threw me, I can say that! I was always determined to hang on.
One of the favorite family tales my dad likes is me barreling down the field on a horse, bareback, and stopping and getting off and saying something like, “I just can’t ride too well without a saddle.”
Another guy there said, “Well, looks like she did okay to me!”
Thinker Belle // March 8, 2009 at 8:06 pm
But, now that you mention it, I do have one scar…I fell with a glass pop bottle back in high school…the broken part ended up in my arm. I didn’t even notice I was cut because my “boyfriend” was laughing at me for falling-which pissed me off royally! It wasn’t until another friend of mine noticed all the blood and started screaming did I realize I was hurt.
I never cried because I was so Pissed at him…actually, I’m still pissed to this day! Lol!
Marinade Dave // March 8, 2009 at 8:40 pm
See, Thinker Belle? Something told me you were into horses. I don’t know how I knew, but I am a very good judge of character. Even before you told your broken glass story, I knew you are not a person I would ever want to piss off!
Ina // March 9, 2009 at 12:23 pm

Ina // March 9, 2009 at 1:23 pm

Ina // March 9, 2009 at 3:23 pm

You can’t have it all
Marinade Dave // March 9, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Me? Yeah, I’ve rode horses before. Not in years and I was never that good at it. I like them, though.
Ina // March 9, 2009 at 3:36 pm

detwill39 // March 9, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Dave~~Michael J Foxx must be happy at Obamas news. My heart goes out to that young man. Christopher Reeves felt stem cells would help him. I cant fully understand how they could grow back damaged nerves by using stem cells. Maybe we will see Brad Conway walk again one day. Did you ever google my name and see the article I wrote? You will know why I can identify with Conway and Reeves. I just dont let it be known as I like to be on par when I spar. LOL
Thinker Belle // March 9, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Believe it or not, I have eaten horse meat. I literally made me sick because I loved horses so much.
I was a child, recently moved to a different state in which a crazy aunt lived. She and her husband were beating the soaring inflation of the ’70s and were experimenting with horse meat.
Why horse meat I’ll never know, because at the age of eleven I was already a better cook than she was and let me tell you what…everything she cooked tasted like horse meat!
She was a leftover hippie from the sixties! Lol!
Marinade Dave // March 9, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Not yet, detwill39, but I will, now that you reminded me. Embryonic stem cells are interesting. In a nutshell: When the sperm and egg join, they split. One cell will make the placenta. The other will form the fetus. Before it ever becomes a fetus, that cell is extracted and it can be used to grow new organs, tissues, and just about anything science throws at it. It’s really quite fascinating and I think a lot of people are afraid of it because they just don’t understand it. There is that issue over when conception begins. Now remember, Bush did not outlaw embryonic stem cell research in the private sector. All he did was keep it out of the government’s hands.
I’m happy for anyone that it helps, but for some, it will be too late. Also, there are other areas of study that will, one day, render embryonic stem cells obsolete.
Thinker Belle // March 9, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Oh Ina, you shouldn’t feel too humble…you should see me on ice…you’d laugh your backside off. It is ridiculous! Now on ice I can do a lot of damage to my own self! Lol!
detwill39 // March 9, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Thinker~~I think horse meat would be so tough because a horse is muscular. I like venison when it doesn’t taste wild. It depends what the deer feed on.
I wonder if stem cells would grow me some cushions in between my joints. Spring is not a good time for arthritis.
Marinade Dave // March 9, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Stem cells will work wonders. I don’t know about arthritis. Maybe it depends on whether it’s rheumatoid or not.
Thinker Belle // March 9, 2009 at 8:36 pm
detwill, as I remember it seemed rather stringy. Venison is good, and I have eaten quite a bit of it in my lifetime. Actually, when I was growing up they would let school out a few days for deer season.
Try some glucosomeen (sp) for those joints. detwill
I guess I’ve always been a bit arthritic, but I’ve always been active. I feel bad when I don’t move around…my joints that is.
Thinker Belle // March 9, 2009 at 8:43 pm

I have osteoarthuritis and tendonitis from overuse of the joints etc. I have been taking calcium, cod liver oil capsules and glucosamine for the past 5 yrs or more. I cannot take anti-inflammatory meds because I am allergic to aspirin so extra strength is my only salvation when the pain gets bad.

Gosh detwill, I don’t know what to say…I’ll be there at some point I am sure. You are probably a little older than I am. I can only imagine that cold Canadian weather is no help.
Actually, talking about my crazy aunt reminded me that she had married a man from Canada and he was with her when she came to visit a few years back. He had been a principal at a school…I remembered he cursed profusely. Is that common?
Marinade Dave // March 9, 2009 at 9:34 pm

I was just kidding about eating horsemeat. I don’t even eat venison and there is plenty of it up here where I live. I am not really crazy about eating red meat.
Beatrice,
I believe in Canada, at least in Quebec, the do have socialized medicine but the problem is you don’t get to choose your primarty doctor and you don’t get the same doctor all the time. Whoever is on duty that day is the one to take care of you. This info is from a friend of mine who’s mom was taken care of by the Canadian Gov. in Quebec.
Thinker Belle // March 10, 2009 at 9:20 am

Ina // March 10, 2009 at 11:59 am
Thank you for your well spoken promise
I still had a good laugh.
detwill39 // March 10, 2009 at 5:47 pm
magog~~Quebec does not follow the same government rules and regulations as the other provinces do. Being a province almost totally French, Quebec has come very close to separating ties from the rest of Canada.
I have my own doctor and all my medicine, medical tests etc are covered by Medicare. I do pay approx $5 for each prescription drug.
Never judge all of Canada by that one province.
Thinker thought all Canadians used foul language because of one idiot principal from one of the western provinces.
I’m gonna sound like Dave now by saying…Can we say all mothers in the US murder their children because of Casey Anthony?
Dave~~it’s all your fault ya know. LOL
Marinade Dave // March 10, 2009 at 6:01 pm
But you see, detwill39, it makes people realize not all mothers in the US are murderers.
Kari // March 10, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Thinker Belle? You think you pulled a shoulder in your sleep? The Dr. gave you muscle relaxers for it? This makes me think of the dreaded Fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue virus. At least, my family believes it’s a virus. The theories and treatments are many and partly depend on how much time and money you have to spend on doctors…
Let me see if I can possibly give a synopsis of this, ah, syndrome. Periphery symptoms include: digestive disturbances, random seeming muscle pains and aches, usually at a joint, numbness and tingling, sleep disturbances, low-grade fever, thyroid imbalance, and a sort of vague depression. Most of these symptoms can be caused by a deficiency of serotonin, and many of them are also present during a clinical depression. So your doctor would probably want to put you on an anti-depressant, and it would probably help, even if you don’t feel clinically depressed.
Now, here’s the kicker, the main diagnostic symptom for this thing is that many of these symptoms will be worse upon awakening, and fade off somewhat during the day. Also, it is quite common to wake up in the night with symptoms so irksome as to mimic an anxiety attack. Again, this is probably at least partly caused by lack of serotonin. With enough serotonin, and proper sleep, any sort of pain should be less when you wake, and then increase with use. With the exception of certain inflammations, like heel spurs, which become less with use, because exercising tends to reduce swelling.
This base-of-the-neck, radiating-into-the-shoulder pain, is typical of an infection/inflammation that attacks the nervous system, such as meningitis.
I am not a doctor and only speak from my own much-rued experience. If you would be interested in a health-store alternative to the SRI-type anti-depressants, you might try either St. John’s Wort or Tyrosine. The former is an herb that raises serotonin levels, and also nor-epinephrine levels. The latter is an amino acid which is a pre-cursor (along with tryptophan) for serotonin. And neither should be taken in conjunction with a prescribed anti-depressant without doctor’s approval.
I really hope you have only pulled a muscle and I just wasted your time…
Thinker Belle // March 11, 2009 at 9:49 am
Thank you Kari…but it is much better now. I think I sleep on the same arm and often try to turn in my sleep, therefore getting it in a bind.
I’m going to go buy new pillows first…then I’ll think about anti-depressants.
