Michael Joseph Jackson – August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009
About a year or so after I moved to Orlando, a friend of mine drove down from Atlanta to spend a few days before we were to head up to New Jersey to spend time with our friends in Beach Haven. He was driving a spanking new Mazda RX-7 and it was a great little car. My old friend, Steve Kangas, always had the nicest and most up-to-date toys in the universe. Let’s just say that by the time you got your very first digital camera, Steve had a better one a full six months before yours and it was a better model, to boot. Any time new technology takes hold, Steve has already left the building in search of something newer and better. Chances are, he has it, too.
On that one particular trip, he had a cassette tape – CDs weren’t out yet – and he popped in something by Michael Jackson.
“Michael Jackson!!!???” I exclaimed. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” I was never a fan of pop music. Bubblegum stuff. Jackson Five.
It was about a 17 hour trip to New Jersey that day we left Orlando, but by the time we arrived, Thriller became one of the best albums I’d ever listened to and it’s no small wonder that it stands today as the best-selling album in the history of recorded music, with over 50 million copies sold worldwide since its 1982 debut. I still think it’s a masterpiece. No doubt, the man was an extremely gifted musician. Long before Britney Spears was a sparkle in her parents’ eyes and years before Rihanna learned how to lip sync, Michael Jackson showed the world what choreographed dancing and singing were all about. He influenced Rock, R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop and Soul and today’s singers owe a lot to him. No matter what you thought of him in life, he left an indelible mark on music history.
A real life Peter Pan, Michael Jackson was like a lost child stuck in a body he didn’t know what to do with.
The King of Pop is dead. Long live the king.

I hate to admit that I didn’t even know about the Jackson Five until just happening to see Michael Jackson when he sang Billie Jean on some TV show. The moon walk ! At that point I started digging to find out who he was. Really a sad story of his life but what a talented young man.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:55 am
He was certainly multi-talented, Newbie. I hope he is more remembered for his work and contributions to charities than his complex issues in life.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Hi Dave and Newbie~~ I was not a fan of Michael Jackson, his style of music did nothing for me. Elvis was my idol and I still swoon over his ‘Love Me Tender’ and “How’s The World Treating You.’
Jackson’s marriage to Lisa Marie Presley raised eyebrows back in May of ‘94. Their marriage only lasted until Jan of ‘96 and some folks speculated that Lisa married Michael to try and further her music career. Lisa is maintaining that Michael knew his fate and posted on her MySpace recently. You can read about it here….

Hi, detwill39. I read Lisa Marie’s page earlier today and it was kind of interesting, like he sensed his health would one day fail him. I was never a big fan of his, either, and I pretty much put him in the same league with Elvis – take him or leave him. I was never a big fan of his. I was raised on the Beatles and what came after them. I think one of the problems with people like this is they lose touch with reality because people all around them prop them up, tell them what they want to hear and give them opiates when they stub their toes. It’s sad when anyone dies, but how much of it was by their own hands, whether they knew it or not? I don’t think his Peter Pan persona ever landed on the ground.

Dave~~I hope you don’t mind that a sleuth is at work. It is overcast and threatening rain here so the ‘ weeding wonder’ is confined to barracks.
We wonder what will happen to Michael’s kids. I hope, whoever gets custody of them, will take those veils off their faces. Michael dangling the baby over the railing was unnerving…

You keep right on sleuthing, detwill39. Everything you look up is quality stuff, so sink your teeth into it. On the kids, a nanny is watching them. I hope John Morgan doesn’t catch wind of that. There was also word that his mother will take them because they were very close to her. I don’t know how surrogate relationships work and he may have had the 2 mothers of his children sign away all waivers.

LAPD were looking for Dr. Conrad Robert Murray, MJ’s personal doctor the morning after the shock death of Michael Jackson. Conrad Murray is a cardiologist and registered in Texas. Dr Conrad Murray is based at the Acres Home Heart and Vascular Institute in Houston Texas.
Police want to question Dr. Conrad Robert Murray over allegations that Michael Jackson was injected with a fatal dose of the painkiller Demerol, just before his cardiac arrest and subsequent death on Thursday June 25, 2009.
Scroll down the page a bit to read more. I will warn you that there is a graphic pic of Michael that may disturb those who loved him.

Yeah, you’re right. That was probably the last photo of him taken before he was pronounced dead, but he was already dead at his house. The hospital called it after frantically working on him, but he had died about 45 minutes earlier. That’s my understanding of it.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Dave~~Michael’s personal doctor would not pronounce him dead at the house. He insisted they continue CPR and take him to hospital. You are right that he was dead quite awhile before they certified it at the hospital.
I don’t know if someone found him not breathing and summoned the doctor, or if the doc was there when he died. It will be 4-5 weeks before the toxicology results come back. I wonder if that will be kept under seal like Elvis’.
Every time I run into a pic of old Joe Jackson, I could smack him. Michael never did have a normal childhood. During one of his interviews, he said he went to private school for 4 hrs each day and then had to pracitice music for another 5 or 6. He said he used to cry when he watched other kids at the playground. He also said his father beat him.
Coreysmom // June 27, 2009 at 4:11 pm
When I first heard about MJ it was about him having a heart attack. Didn’t pay attention to the news but remember some doctor being interviewed saying it didn’t look good fior him. I just said a prayer for him and went about getting dinner on the table. I figured he is young enough to survive a heart attack and he must be fit with all the dancing he did. Then I sat down to eat and they said he had passedaway. My heart sunk. I’m no fan of his but it still was unbelievable. Prescription drugs possibly did it. The doctor is highly questionale. Giving CPR on the bed? Not having the medication needed in case the Demoral took the nasty turn on MJ? Weird.
He sure was a complex man-child. I have enjoyed watching the old Jackson 5 video spots and his videos from before he went overboard on his face. He was so handsome I never could understand even the first nose job. And his chin! Geez! What happened there?! Thankfully, his talent superceded his looks…
RIP, MJ.
Ina // June 27, 2009 at 4:34 pm
He should have had it better I think. He had a miserable life, working hard and always in the public eye. And now he beat it for good. I liked him when he sang Ben as a boy. The ‘grown up’ MJ was a bit scary.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Sorry. I was working on a project for someone.
I’ve heard some of that about Joe. I think he and his wife got divorced a number of years ago, didn’t they? I wonder if Joe can take some of the credit for his son’s incredible talent and success? Had Michael not died, and not grown up with a strict father, would he have still turned out so unusual – for lack of a better word? I mean, Tiger Woods had a strict disciplinarian father and look at him.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Coreysmom – I recall hearing something years ago about his surgery. He was a huge Diana Ross fan and he wanted to look like her. Only whiter.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Hi, Ina – A lot of people can take the strain of being in the public eye. Obviously, he wasn’t one of them in the end. Lot’s of performers work incessantly at their trade until they get so old they can’t walk. I do believe that because he was out of the limelight for a long time, his body got out of shape and he worked too hard to remedy that for his concert tour. As much as he thought of himself as a boy, it was too much for his delicate 50-year old body. Combine that with drugs and this is what happened. That’s my guess.
Kari // June 27, 2009 at 5:37 pm
To say a few words on the subject of his skin color. I understand he had vetiligo, a condition caused partly by hormonal imbalances, which produce a lack of pigmentation in the skin.
My mother had this condition, it was part of a hormonal problem involving her pituitary and thyroid. She was born to parents who were French, Welsh, and English, and she had dark brown hair, brown eyes, and a quite tanned complexion, almost Italian-looking. After she got the vetiligo, she began to have large white spots all over, and that skin would not tan and would burn in the sun.
Later, those white spots became larger and eventually she lost all pigmentation and is virtually an albino, all white and pink, and with her hair all white, now, she has said she feels like she’s a different race.
So, I have no trouble believing that Michael could have had that same condition, although when he began to get spots, maybe he went ahead and had his skin bleached or whatever so as not to appear so strange.

The doctor was questioned, but not arrested I heared.
David, the king is dead, long live the kingyou said, but that means there is a successor; who is that?
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Hi, Kari I’ve heard about MJ’s skin condition and that was quite a few years ago. At the time, I questioned whether it was true, but if so, I still questioned why he didn’t go the other way with it. Why didn’t he darken the light spots instead of the other way around? Also, from the pictures I’ve seen of his children, they look more white. How MJ lightened his skin should not have a reflection on the color of his children and with black being the dominant color, why are his kids so white? I’m not obsessed with it and I’m certainly not a racist, but if I were black, I would be more proud of my heritage, I guess., but then again, I didn’t know him personally.

Coreysmom // June 27, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Diana Ross…yes, that’s who he wanted to look like. He never achieved that, did he?
I’ve heard he had a skin disease that made his skin white. Thing is, it would make him splotchy, so I think he also bleached his whole face, at least, to appear better.
Id'claire // June 27, 2009 at 7:52 pm
So was he taking hormones to keep his voice up high? He was an excellent singer, and most popular when his voice was high as a boy. Was he trying to maintain that octave?
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:01 pm
I’ve often wondered why he didn’t darken the white spots.

It said on the news today that the Jackson family had a second autopsy done. They weren’t satisfied with the coroner’s report from the first one.
Id'claire // June 27, 2009 at 8:30 pm
I don’t think it’s MJ’s death that is so shocking, as death itself. MJ’s was just another stunning shocker of that. We seem to think we’ll live forever. And we cling to those things around us that in some way comforts us, like our childhood memories, or popular music stars. As these comforts are shaken from us, it collapses our little fantasies on the immortality of life. We must face that we too must die.
My in-laws are in their 80’s. When a few years younger, my mother-in-law would cry as the Obits would tell of one old friend after another had passed. Now they live in a world of strangers (except for their family) with strange gizmos that their children want them to learn to use to keep better in touch. They live closer to death, but are still not friends with it.
=======
A few years ago when MJ’s face was flashing across the news with horrid allegations, my youngest, at 8, became intensely afraid. He even had a hard time sleeping that night and often other nights. He did not hear the news, only saw the face. He knew nothing of MJ but his face terrified him.
The other day, my 15 yr old rushed in with the news of MJ’s death with joy on her face. Another Creep gone. She felt a little guilty. I told her that as long as someone is alive, we should not wish them dead…because of eternal consequences. While alive, there is time to “make peace” with the One we will be held accountable to. But once that One has taken someone’s life and decision from them, then we may feel relief.
Was MJ a victim? Perhaps at one time…. but not always. Many kept him in that light.
Now he will be even more of an icon, many will “forgive his improprieties,” yet he will never be able to hear or perform his music again.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Yes, I heard that, too, but on the news (ABC) Dr. Timothy, oh what’s his name? Anyway, he said the drug tests won’t be released any sooner on account of the second autopsy.
Kari // June 27, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Dave, those are very good questions, probably lots of people wondered the same things. I can answer why he might not have darkened his white spots–apparently the disorder most often progresses as it did with my mom, until the person is all white, so if you were trying to stay dark, you’d be applying more and more make-up. That’s one answer. Of course, the advantages of being more light-skinned are still many, in our country as in many other countries.
For the color of his children—I never follow the celebrity news too closely. Do we all believe they are his biological children??
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Poor Michael. He was a victim of himself in so many respects. I don’t think he lived in the same world as us, not adults, anyway. For all the accusations of abuse against children, no one ever accused him of improprieties with his own. I don’t think we’ll ever know the truth, but I hope one day his spirit is cleansed and his name is remembered for his contributions.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:59 pm
I don’t know if they are his or not, but I don’t recall anything about him not being the biological father. Just the mothers were surrogate.
Kari // June 27, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Rats! I didn’t mean to be Anonymous.
I am one of those who are inclined to give Michael the benefit of the doubt, or at least forgive him for his trespasses. I don’t believe he was evil, just a ‘lost boy’, like Peter Pan’s Lost Boys.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 9:22 pm
You are no longer anonymous, Kari.
I don’t think MJ had an evil bone in his body. Misguided? Yes, but I can’t say for sure that he ever molested any boys.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 12:40 am
I read Detwill’s link at June 27, 3:15 pm.
From the link:
“When EMTs arrived at Michael Jackson’s home yesterday, the medics wanted to pronounce him dead on the scene — but Michael’s personal doctor refused to let them “call it”. There was evidence someone had been performing CPR on Michael for quite some time.Medics took over performing CPR but determined Jackson was lifeless — and wanted to call the coroner to pick up the body.”
“We’re told Jackson was flat-lined when EMTs arrived. But our sources say M.J.’s doc demanded EMTs continue performing CPR anyway, and demanded that they take Michael to the hospital. Once they arrived at UCLA, we’re told Jackson’s doc continued to personally administer CPR — even though it was clear Jackson was already gone.”
That was a very smart move for Dr. Conrad Murray to continue performing CPR, even though it was clear that he was already gone at his home and at the hospital. By doing this, Dr. Murray prevented himself from being the object of false accusations in the high publicity and the deep emotions that was sure to surround this death.
Smart move, Doctor.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 12:58 am
You’re talking of a skin condition, vitiligo, as if he actually had vitiligo.
That’s only what m.j. SAID he had.
Many people don’t believe he ever had vitiligo, and many people close to the Jackson family don’t believe he ever had vitiligo.
lulu // June 28, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Well, I’m a huge fan of his music. He was one of a kind. I’ve always hoped he’d do more recording and I’m very sorry about this. But he was a very troubled guy.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Forgot to add that I loved a lot of his dancing and his music.
And that I, too, was surprised when he started butchering his face, because I also thought he looked so handsome before, like in his “Rock With You” video before he had any of the facial surgery.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I watched someof his videos last night, Lulu, and they were really good. They were songs I’d never heard before.
Kari // June 28, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Los Angelos, I did say I had heard that he had vitiligo, a hormonal disorder which results in the loss of pigmentation. You are talking as though he did not have it. Neither of us knows. Thanks for the spelling correction, it was lazy of me not to check it.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 10:03 pm
hi Kari. I don’t remember correcting you for spelling, because I don’t remember ever correcting anyone for spelling. Spelling of what?
Yes, there are those that believe and those that don’t.
Kari // June 29, 2009 at 11:36 am
Los Angeles, oh, you spelled ‘vitiligo’ correctly! I had wondered when I typed it if ‘vetiligo’ was right, but I didn’t bother to look it up. I’m not being sarcastic about that, I do appreciate it, I like getting the words right, and I’ll remember that next time.
But I’ll admit to feeling faintly, uh, ironic over pondering whether or not MJ actually had vitiligo. Heck, none of us knows anything but rumors about his personal life…
LosAngeles // June 29, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Oh, I’m glad I did, Kari, as I was just guessing on how to spell vitiligo. Maybe I remembered how to spell it in my subconscious.
That’s true, rumors abound.

Thanks, Detwill, for the link concerning Michael’s diagnoses of Vitiligo and Lupus. Very interesting. I haven’t read too much about Lupus, sounds like it is a big strain on the immune system.
It is interesting to me to see that they do not refer to any hormonal element with Vitiligo. My mom’s doctor told us it was due to the hormonal problems that she has, but that was years ago. Maybe that is an old-fashioned idea.

UPDATE: The Los Angeles County coroner just released the following statement:
“The report that is being published did not come from this office. I don’t know where the information came from, or who that information came from. It is not accurate. Some of it is totally false.”
Careful. Remembering that the things on the internet are written by people.
Detwill39 // June 29, 2009 at 9:25 pm
LA~~Of course they are going to deny the report came from their office. I don’t think that I would want to admit that my trusted employees leaked pert info. I like to live on the edge. Being too careful impedes my progress. LOL

Kari~~hormones may not have been mentioned but, trust me, they play a key role in all our bodily functions. They go hand in hand with the adrenaline glands.
Marinade Dave // June 29, 2009 at 9:32 pm
It’s funny, because I was just telling someone earlier about not believing the leaked autopsy report until the official one comes out because no one knows where it came from. It could have been a made up story from the UK equivalent of the National Enquirer for all we know. The reason why I question it is because his people said he had been rehearsing and working hard for his concert tour. Someone is lying and someone is telling the truth.
Detwill39 // June 29, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Dave~~ Someone is lying and someone is telling the truth.

Which one? I know he was married to Lisa Presley for a short time. Was he married to the mother of a couple of those children? I heard he was not the bio-father. Michael’s mother got custody of the children but she is getting on in years. I expect Michael discussed his wishes with Diana Ross in regards to the kids. If that was his last known will, it is the one that sticks.
Marinade Dave // July 1, 2009 at 7:39 pm
If that was his last known will, yes, that is the one that sticks. He was married to the blonde nurse, the mother of 2 of his children. He made it a point ot omit her from the will. That must have been sour grapes.

Did the blond try to get custody of the kids when Michael was up on the molestation charges? I think her first name is Debbie…R.

I just saw that on Yahoo! News. I don’t know what transpired there, but the will was written in 2002 and he wasn’t up on those charges until 3 years later. Something happened back then.

Marinade Dave // July 1, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Thanks, detwill39, I have my moments, I guess. I just read on Yahoo! something about the divorce and child custody rights she gave away in an out of court settlement years ago. Debbie Rowe was married to Jackson in 1996 and filed for divorce three years later. She surrendered her parental rights. An appeals court later found that was done in error, and Rowe and Jackson entered an out-of-court settlement in 2006. My guess is that out of court settlement instigated the change in the will. Problems between them, for sure.

over there should be under this title.

No, no, Beatrice, they don’t want to beat, they want to slice, like Ronco’s Veg-O-Matic.

After all that, if I were a man I would never want to
be around a woman, and fall asleep. Wow, scary!
Gotta tell you Dave, if it wasn’t about her child, I may
not think Casey so bad in comparison after all. Bet you
never realized such thoughts could come out of such lovely ladies. Off topic, sorry. Poor Michael, so young and talented.

Actually, it leads me to believe more and more in the old saying that men are dogs and women are like cats. Dogs want to be your friend. Cats love you and all, but if they had a chance, they’d play with you until they get tired. Then, they’d sink their teeth in {{{CRUNCH}}} and that would be the end.

Poor MJ. If only he could’ve picked his last day.
And Nancy Grace? All her plans had to be changed for MJ. As a “news” center of sorts, this changing up is fairly routine, but think of all the money and time orchestrating a medley of Cindy, only to have to switch to MJ.
Oh, well, both make the big bucks.

I think there’s more money in MJ than Cindy right now and NG’s people made that loud and clear.

Don’t worry, Id’Claire. Eventually, Nancy Grace will still milk the medley of Cindy for all it’s worth.
