Forensic science has become a crucial part of our culture today. Turn on a TV set during prime time hours on any night of the week and some kind of crime drama is on. I like to call it Crime Time. NCIS and CSI programs permeate the airwaves where blood evidence, trace evidence and DNA play crucial roles in every plot. In real life, Dr. Lawrence Kobilinsky is a forensic scientist and a member of Casey Anthony’s defense team. While we watch fictional accounts, real forensic detective work is rarely as exciting and foolproof as it’s portrayed on television. Neither is it as speedy, since most of the story lines are wrapped up in an hour, more like 43 minutes, not counting commercials.
Kobilinsky is Professor of Criminal Justice and Biochemistry at The Graduate Center and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Senior Adviser to the President at John Jay. Of the highly popular TV programs, he said, “It’s not as you see it on television. It’s very good entertainment and I enjoy watching it, but they make significant mistakes. They do it because they need to make crime solving more glamorous.”
One thing is certain: There is nothing glamorous about Caylee Anthony’s death and each side, the prosecution and defense, takes different approaches toward a real life crime and it is serious business. After the Orange County medical examiner, Jan Garavaglia, AKA Dr. G, determined Caylee’s death was a homicide, evidence took on a half full, half empty theme. One team cried murder and the other boldly decreed no proof of that!
Larry Kobilinsky joined the defense team in September, before Caylee’s remains were discovered in a densely wooded lot on Suburban Drive in Orlando. “To Mr. Baez, I think he as a good defense attorney [and he] is entitled to know what the science says. I don’t make things black/white, white/black, but I have to give him the best that science can offer,” he said then. He dismissed the medical examiner’s report concluding that Caylee’s death was a homicide.
“It is not clear how the child died, and we don’t know how the child died, we can’t determine whether or not it was a homicide,” he told WKMG-Channel 6 reporter, Tony Pipitone. Kobilinsky said there was no evidence of drugs found in the toddler’s remains, but did acknowledge that because only bone and hair samples remain, exposure to drugs cannot be ruled out. What remains clear are the words of Dr. G stating that duct tape over Caylee’s mouth and nose, including the hair, was placed there before decomposition. That leaves open two doors; that the child suffocated or it was put there soon after death. Either way, it looks like a murder and forensic analysis will be extremely crucial to the jury. For sure, photographic and x-ray images will have an impact on those 12 people and both camps are keenly aware of that.
Clearly, the duct tape more than suggests suffocation but it does not prove it. “I’ve been very critical of forensic procedures that are more art than science,” Kobilinsky said. “There is no clear protocol or system for the examiner who must make the call… it mostly comes down to feeling, opinion, and experience.”
On Monday morning’s NBC Today Show, a segment focused on how seemingly equal experts draw different conclusions from the medical examiner’s autopsy report. Two different experts, Dr. Werner Spitz, a defense pathologist, and Dr. Cyril Wecht, a forensic pathologist, were asked about the report.
“There is nothing that I know that puts the lid on this, that tells you that there was a murder here. Everything, as far as I know, is in question,” claimed Dr. Spitz.
After examining the report, Dr. Wecht speculated that the child suffered if she suffocated. Suffocation “would be the most likely way in which you would expect an infant, a young child, to be murdered,” he said. “It’s easily accomplished, obviously, and would leave no telltale marks.”
There are several key elements that will play crucial roles in scientific testimony at the trial, at least from the defense team. They will stress that there is no DNA evidence and unless any other evidence is forthcoming, no fingerprints linking Casey Anthony to any of the duct tape. Of the duct tape, Kobilinsky noted that the state will claim it indicates a homicide, but “that is not necessarily the case. If, for example, the child died as the result of accidental trauma and then, subsequently, for whatever reason, somebody took the child and did whatever was done involving plastic bags and duct tape.”
What about the missing hyoid bone? Dr. G would have examined it for signs of strangulation and ruled on it, but the bone in a toddler could be so soft it wouldn’t break in strangulation, so could a true determination have been made? If Caylee’s mouth opened soon after death, which is normal when jaw muscles relax, it wouldn’t have been a pretty sight and that could explain a postmortem application of duct tape.
This is but a mere sample of what is in store come trial time, which will likely be at least a year from now. What this evidence seems to portend right now are signs that can really be broken into separate camps. It’s almost like arguing that a tomato is a fruit. No! It’s a vegetable! No, it’s a fruit! No, it’s a vegetable! According to U.S. tariff laws, a tomato is a vegetable, and from a culinary point of view, it is a vegetable, but due to the scientific definition of a fruit, the tomato remains a fruit.
In the end, the judge will have to call upon the wisdom of Solomon and the power of Moses to part the abundant sea of information so the jury can walk a cut and dried path between two sides awash in powerful waves of forensic evidence. In the meantime, our garden is swimming in overripe tomatoes, just waiting to be plucked – fruits or vegetables, take your pick.

I think since they only have a few choices to list on a death certificate the right conclusion was made. It was not natural causes, suicide or accidental so the only conclusion you can come to is murder. I guess it could have been accidental but after the initial death 911 was not called, therefore you have to go with the assumption that it could not have been a accident.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 8:46 am
And I agree with you. Tape over a mouth doesn’t seem natural to me.
Id'claire // June 26, 2009 at 8:52 am
It should be very interesting as to how the prosecution presents and develops its case…Who will be the lead the state?
laura // June 26, 2009 at 8:55 am
No Dave tape over the mouth is not natural. Jose and his team have a long road ahead of them to try and overcome all the evidence against Casey. No matter how you look at all the evidence even with a open mind you can come to only one conclusion…..
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 8:58 am
I believe Linda Drane Burdick will be the lead prosecutor. She is the Designated Assistant State Attorney directly under Lawson Lamar, State Attorney of the Ninth Judicial Circuit prosecuting for the State of Florida in Orange County.

Well written Dave.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 9:29 am
Thank you, KT. I certainly do appreciate your comment.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 9:40 am
Certainly, Laura, tape over the mouth is not natural. Was it the cause of death? Te state will say so and the defense will say otherwise. Those are the opposing sides and it will be the jury’s choice to decide which one it is.
Coreysmom // June 26, 2009 at 10:30 am
It does come down to who’s side the experts are on in what they will say and the jury will have to decide who was most convincing.
And now I see why it is hard to know whether the tape was applied before death or after. I imagine the jury will not make their determination on that alone but will have to make it on the overall evidence. Which screams guilty, IMO.
mikka // June 26, 2009 at 10:34 am
cory,i know who i believe, the fbi lap is the best in america!and about the experts for the defense, all what for them is left,is spinning!!
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 10:43 am
The trial could conceivably come down to whether the tape was applied before or after death, but in all respects, why was the tape placed on the face to begin with? Any way you look at it, it doesn’t look remotely like an accidental death.
nena22303 // June 26, 2009 at 11:41 am
Loved the blog Dave…Can they still be holding evidence i.e. fingerprints on the tape? I read somewhere that the FBI can withold such evidence, is it true? IMO she is guilty, BUT it only takes one juror to say not guilty and it ends up in mistrial…I cannot imagine all 12 jurors saying “not guilty” but it is a strange world.
I can see now how the defense could say the tape could have been placed there after Caylee’s death, Casey could have placed it to block some of the decomp ordor, but a couple of layers around the head gives me a picture of intent and malicious.
Now at first I bought the accidental theory, BUT why would you go party after you accidently killed your child? If it was accidental, which I doubt, it shows the disregard for Caylee overall, like sure it was an accident but I’m HAPPY.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Thank you, nena22303.
The state cannot withhold evidence from the defense, but that doesn’t mean we get to see everything. For example, we will not see autopsy photos. The defense may claim that Casey’s fingerprints are not on the tape, but we, the public, don’t really know for sure. Any way you look at it, tape on a face is not something that any good can come out of it. Dead or alive, the tape wasn’t put there by accident and it absolutely does not point to an “Oops, I didn’t mean to kill you” moment. The fact that she never called 911 to report her daughter dead or missing speaks larger than a set of fine print encyclopedias, if you know what I mean.
Dee // June 26, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Defense lawyers . . . Hey, I remember this kind of thing was said about Lacey Peterson and Connor – before and during the trial for Scott Peterson. Let’s hope on this one, as on that one, there is a jury of intelligent people – not vegetables (- and I won’t say the other – as it might be deemed not politically correct, even though it does not have that meaning here at all).
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Hi, Dee. I hope the public understands that the defenses’ job in all cases is to protect and exonerate their clients. This one is no different in this regard and it is their duty to try to rip the evidence to shreds. Anyone who doesn’t believe that is living in a vegetative state or their brains are filled with Fruit Loops.
Dee // June 26, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Well, I hope you don’t mean me, Dave, for making that comment (and I am laughing as I type this). I get that the defense’s job is to rip the evidence to shreds. It’s the job of the jury to not be fooled by smoke and mirrors – from either side. Fruit Loops –
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 12:52 pm
No, I wasn’t referring to you, Dee. I’m talking about the mindless commenters at mostly other blogs. The ones that have accused everyone of being guilty of something.
Kari // June 26, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Even if, as I would prefer to believe, Casey somehow did not intend to kill Caylee, she is most obviously guilty of something.
As you say, if it had been a purely accidental death, there would have been an immediate 911 call. Not duct tape, a trunk full of decomp, and a small body in garbage bag in the woods.
Now, suppose for an instant that she did not intend to kill Caylee, but knew she was culpable in some regard, for instance, she had drugged her to sleep and overdosed her. Or, she left her in her car seat in a boiling car. Or even, she accidentally backed the car over her.
In such a case, what would be the charge? Not murder in the first degree, but homicide? Involuntary manslaughter?
And for all the hocus-pocus after the fact? There would also be charges, right? Failure to report an accident, obstructing an investigation, improper disposal of a body…
Or is there some other charge for covering up a crime?
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 1:53 pm
The way I think about it, Kari, is that Casey’s partying after Caylee’s death says it all. If the death was accidental, no matter how it happened, how could she just walk away and act like she was finally free from the binds of motherhood? Yay! Single again! Let’s party!!!
Dee // June 26, 2009 at 2:19 pm
That’s how I see it too, Dave. It leaves me speechless, enraged, gagging – and very sad for Caylee (and Geo & Cindy & Lee, the great grandparents, extended family – and Jesse Grund and family).
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I don’t really know how anyone can look at it another way except, maybe, her parents because that’s what parents do. Even they are saving face part of the time, I’m sure.
Kari // June 26, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Oh, you’re right, Dave, her behavior shows that she had no proper mother love for her child, and no conscience. Even if they find Zenaida tomorrow, Casey is still guilty of never reporting Caylee missing, nor even seriously looking for her.
But this is exactly my point, my question. Just because she did not mourn for Caylee, does not prove that she killed her. Suppose they cannot prove murder, what would be the alternative charge, I wonder? Or does it work like that? If, at the last moment, Casey finally confesses that she found Caylee dead in her carseat, or in the pool, after she (Casey) had gone to answer the phone–then what will happen?
I admit it’s unlikely.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Along with the death penalty, the jury can sentence her in a number of ways, such as life without parole, life with parole after so many years and so on down the line, but I do not believe it could be reduced to manslaughter at all. She would have to be found innocent or guilty of murder to some degree. If she is found innocent, the state could still charge her with manslaughter and child neglect, but generally, once a person is acquitted of those types of charges, that’s the end of it. The public might cry foul, and that would only count in Florida, and that might press them to take further action, but remember, she still faces over a dozen charges on stealing money, etc. Each charge could bring prison time and added up, she will be behind bars by hook or by crook. The state wants her incarcerated.

Hi Dave~~Just a quick pop in and a penny’s worth, too hot to stay in the sun and I seemed to be drawn back here like a magnet. I have to get my polarity fixed.
Great post. I could not find any evidence that the layers of duct tape were place over the nose. Of course, the tape, even tho attached to the hair on both sides of the skull, may have slipped down from the animals and elements out in the woods.
Blink was wrong about Caylees shorts…I tend to agree with Dr G. She stated the striped shorts were not completely in tact and show stains from decomp.
This ended up to be a nickel’s worth… you can read Blinks take on the clothing below..
In contrast to only a stitching remnant with a manufactures tag left of her shirt, Caylees shorts were found nearly 2 ft ft away from the laundry bag, in relatively good condition. Based on the reports findings of trunk and femural animal activity and the corresponding recovery area, I am of the opinion that it is not possible that Caylee was wearing those shorts when she was dumped in the woods. Frankly, given the fact that the actual color stripe pattern was discernable versus the condition of the other items, I am suspect Casey was in those woods more than once. How do you get only the collar of a shirt remaining and her shorts completely intact with no noted damage? Lastly, Caylees shoes if she were wearing any, were not recovered.
The defense may be better off trying to dissect a peck of tomatoes than the forensics.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Hi, detwill39!!! Do tomatoes grow on trees?
Something else was pretty intriguing on Blinks post and that was about the paper towels in the trunk of Casey’s car with decomp all over them. Those towels came out of Lazzaro’s apartment, or so Blink claims. That’s the first time I heard something directly linking Casey (or Lazzaro) to the death. I wonder if that is exactly true or not.
Thank you for dropping in. It is a real pleasure.
Detwill39 // June 26, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Dave~~you asked me a question so I have to answer. Yes, both tomatoes and peanuts grow on trees.
Casey took a bag of trash from Tony Lazarro’s apartment. He told LE that the contents of the trash looked like it was from his place. Casey took the trash, which contained that pizza box and scraps and threw it in her trunk. If she tried to wipe up spillage from decomp with a paper towel, naturally, she would throw it in the trash bag. Besides blaming the stench on squirrels, she added the trash so she would have an excuse for the odor.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 3:31 pm
That is so strange, though, that she was stupid enough to link herself to the decomp residue from paper towels that came from Lazzaro’s apartment. But now I see he said he thought the trash came from his apartment. Any way you look at it, the trash was in the trunk of HER car and no one else’s, so everything points to her any way you look at it. Sorry, I wasn’t trying to egg you on with a question, but I do like you hanging around.
Kari // June 26, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Ahh, very good answer about paper towels and trash bag Dewill!! Glad to see you couldn’t stay away too long. You are a very welcome presence.
But, what about the quote Corey’smom (June 21 9:37am) found for me concerning duct tape over the “nasal aperture areas”? When I read that I had to give up on my theory that duct tape was only intended to silence her…
Barbie Girl // June 26, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Dave – Still this case intrigues me and I can’t let it go….
Do you think Casey will end up on the witness stand? And if so, how do you think she would do? I know she seems incapable of telling the truth. I value your opinion.
Also, I am curious as to your take on the new developments regarding Haylee Cummings. They are digging up the property around Marie Griffiths place of residence.
Thirdly, do you think Michael Jackson’s death was natural or will there be allegations of a coverup? I heard his father was there, which is curious, since he was estranged from his family. Also, I just heard on the news that they are looking for the doctor who was there when the 911 call was placed. They towed the doctor’s car.
Thanks for always being there to answer my questions.

Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Hi, Barbie Girl –
Some TV lawyers say Baez must put Casey on the stand. Others say he shouldn’t. My guess is that the defense strategy is going to try to shred the evidence into pieces and stick by that plan by proving a reasonable doubt. I would be very surprised if she takes the stand because it opens every door to cross-examination, something the defense doesn’t need because of her proclivity to lie. Would the jury believe anything she says?
This Marie Griffoth information… it’s the first time I’ve heard that anyone was digging around her property. When I looked for it on the Orlando Sentinel Web site, I didn’t see anything, so I will keep searching and get back to you. If true, obviously LE has someone in mind.
I believe Jackson’s death was from too many prescription drugs in his system, but just as strongly, I think he had overworked himself preparing for next month’s 50-concert tour. He was pretty idle for quite some time. Years of drugs had taken their toll and his heart was stressed from that and all the physical work. That’s my opinion, but I’m glad you asked. Thank you.
Dee // June 26, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Agree, Dave, on Michael Jackson’s death. Plus all the surgeries and complications sucked the life out of him. He’d been frail for quite awhile.
(I originally wrote that ‘He’s been frail for quite awhile now’ – like he’s still with us – and it felt wrong – and weird – to change it to past tense.)
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 5:21 pm
I think part of the sadness or surprise, anyway, with Jackson’s sudden death at only 50 is that 50 is too young to die, especially him because he never really grew up. He was like a 50 year old child. Children aren’t supposed to die and that’s one of the reasons why there’s so much fascination with the Anthony story. I hate to segue from Jackson to Anthony, but I always did look at Michael as a lost child stuck in a body he didn’t know what to do with.
Dee // June 26, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Yeah – a real life Peter Pan, which is what I think he thought of himself as, and with the surgeries, tried to bring into being on his face (nose). He was so beautiful – when Thriller came out. And yes, he’d had some surgery by then – why couldn’t he have left it like that? 50 is way too young to die, but then so were the younger drug addicted celebs – Jimi, Janice, Jim Morrison, and more recent – River Phoenix, Heath Ledger (I am sure I have left out a bunch). What a terrible shame to lose so much talent through drug use/abuse.
Have a nice weekend, Dave

Imagine that. It’s almost as if interest in the Anthonys dropped off the moment Michael Jackson died. Maybe, they’re all watching MTV.
Detwill39 // June 26, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Well if I must….I copied this from your post…
They will stress that there is no DNA evidence and unless any other evidence is forthcoming, no fingerprints linking Casey Anthony to any of the duct tape. Of the duct tape, Kobilinsky noted that the state will claim it indicates a homicide, but “that is not necessarily the case. If, for example, the child died as the result of accidental trauma and then, subsequently, for whatever reason, somebody took the child and did whatever was done involving plastic bags and duct tape.”
Question~~If there was no DNA, how did they identify the remains were those of Caylee?
The evidence docs stated that Cindy or George’s fingerprints were not on evidence found. They did not include Caseys. Now this tells me, they have fingerprints, maybe just partial ones, but that is all they need.
I think Kobilinsky is full of chit. He certainly changed his tune once he got hired on by the defense.
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 9:22 pm
First of all, you’ve got to go to this site, detwill39, while I try to stop laughing. Someone must have stumbled on my post about Obama/Alabama I wrote awhile back and they’re taking it seriously. I think, although I’m merely guessing, that the DNA they’re talking about is Casey’s and none was found. If the state can produce fingerprints on the tape, Casey will be looking at more than just life in prison, I would reckon.

Casey’s DNA would be the same as Caylee’s and also Cindy’s or am I wrong?
Marinade Dave // June 26, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Only mitochondrial DNA would be the same. That’s passed on to every family member from the mother’s side, so Cindy would pass it on to Casey and Lee and Caylee would have had it, but Lee would not be able to pass it on. I think it has something to do with the mother carrying the child and feeding it in the womb.

From WDBO Radio here in Orlando today:
Lawyers for “nanny” Zenaida Gonzales have filed a motion blasting a private investigator who worked for both Casey Anthony’s parents and defense attorney Jose Baez.
P.I. Dominic Casey was a no show at a recent deposition scheduled by Gonzales’s lawyers. He claimed information he received while working the case is privileged.
But lawyers for Gonzales strongly disagree saying in a four-page letter to the court that Dominic Casey is “misguided and misinformed.”
They accuse him of skirting the real issues with an “unfounded personal attack” against their firm.
At a hearing in September, Gonzales’s attorneys will ask a judge to hold the Mr. Casey in contempt of court for not showing at the deposition.
At the same hearing, lawyers will ask the judge to force Casey’s father, mother and brother to answer tough questions in the civil case depositions.
In April, when George, Cindy and Lee were deposed, they refused to answer questions they said would affect Casey’s criminal cases.
The hearing on these matters is set for September 9th at 3:15PM.

Sheron // June 26, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Yikes! I just finished reading “Charley’s Web” by Joy Fielding. I noticed the copyright is 2008.
Too many similarities to the Casey case. But enough differences to make it not about the Casey case. It was a fast moving read, which I like. I honestly don’t know if Casey inspired this piece of work – or if Ms. Fielding imagined this plot long before she ever heard of Casey.
Gave me some chills though, if the outcome of the book even comes close to the outcome of Casey. Even after the trial is over. So much more can happen.
A look into a sociopath’s mind – in a very easy to understand way – is yucky. And the book “Casey” who is named Jill – so much in common of just the little we know. I mean, in the way we have seen and heard Casey handle herself around LE. The flirting, the laughing, the innocent little me act.
Like I said, it was chilling to read, yet I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what happened.
So, Sheron’s Book of the Month Club include “Book of Lies” (Excellent read! Boy, Superman has just a history of bad things – George Reeve was killed or committed suicide, Christopher Reeve paralyzed, and now dead. My own observations – they aren’t mentioned in the book. Turns out the original guy who created Superman witnessed something horrible. Tie all that in with Cain and Abel. Really good book.)
And, “Charley’s Web.”
Oh, and Movie of the Month.
Everyone must see “The Hangover.” I am normally not a slap stick type person. That movie made me laugh from beginning to end. Bradley Cooper is my man, now! Meow!!
I cannot recommend this movie enough. I know the trailers on TV are not funny. But the rest of the movie, is!! Laugh for 2 hours. I promise. Despite yourself.
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 12:53 am
As far as Michael Jackson…all the news coverage is MJ. The Today show, the radio stations, etc. ALL MJ.
I loved the Jackson 5 when I was young! Of course, The Osmond Brothers competed! I loved the Saturday morning cartoon! I owned lots of 45’s of them. And later, albums. Thriller was awesome.
I just find it a little hard to take after being accused of molesting young boys, and settling one case for 20 million, that everyone is ignoring that fact.
He was an icon. He was an Elvis. But, think about the lives he might have ruined?! We do not know for sure, I understand. But those young boys are growing up, and have memories. They know the truth. What are they to do now? Speak out against a dead icon? Or just keep quite and live with it? Or, they were lying? Not good choices.
MJ messed with kids lives. He said he thinks sleeping with kids is OK. And, I mean sleeping! Even still, if it’s only sleeping in the same bed. Only parents have that right.
My prayers and thoughts go out to his 3 kids. He made them appear in public in masks since they were little. He dangled the youngest over a balcony a few years ago. Any of us would have went to prison for that alone.
I am sorry he died so young. But geez, he messed up lots of kids. If he was not a celebrity, nobody would care. He got away with a lot. A LOT!
That said, I hope his soul is in Heaven.
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 1:02 am
OH, and she got put on the back burner.
But, I pray Farrah’s soul is in Heaven, too.
She was kind of wacko – I read Tatum’s memoir. Really, just a space cadet that didn’t know how to take care of children.
But, I think Farrah was a better role model than MJ. She did not sleep with children. And, she really was brave about her disease.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:53 am
It looks like you’ve been quite the literary person, Sheron. That’s great that you can read because, quite naturally, I think reading is great for the soul. I will look into Charley’s Web and I’ll poke around the Superman one, too. I remember when George Reeves died and it was called a suicide then. Today, no one knows what happened and we may never learn the truth. Also, I will IMDB The Hangover and see what it’s all about. I’ve never heard of Bradley Cooper, either.
By the way, I did put up a little blurb about MJ this morning and aside from that, how is your job search doing? You mentioned a possibility and I know I’m not alone in wondering.
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Good morning, Dave! Haven’t heard back from Taste of Texas, yet. Left a voice mail yesterday inquiring. I am going to start temping this week until I find a full-time position. Dang it, I hate temping. Not very good pay, and doing the headache work that nobody else wants to do.
I will go read your MJ blurb!
And you simply must go see The Hangover! I’m still laughing when I think about certain scenes!
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Hi, Sheron – I don’t blame you for being somewhat disgruntled by temp work. I wouldn’t want to do it either and I’ve never done clerical work if that’s what you’re doing. One morning, I had to take the transit bus somewhere because my car was in the shop. Plus, I wanted to try it anyway. I was the only person waiting at the stop when a car pulled up. The guy asked me if I wanted to go to work for the day. I said, no, why on earth would you ask me that? He told me he ran a temp service and they always needed day laborers. No, thank you, and he drove off. The funny thing is, I was dressed in nice clothes, dress slacks and a collared shirt. I wonder what gave him the idea that I wanted to go clean up a construction site or whatever? Anyway, that was as close as I ever got to a temp service. Good luck on that one and I hope you hear some good news soon.
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Last time I did temp work I inherited months of bank recs that even the “boss” didn’t know how to explain. The guy who left had a crazy spreadsheet that it took me 2 days to decipher. Yuck.
Nice post about MJ!
I find it kind of amusing that George and Cindy are cast into heck by many people – and they have done nothing. But MJ is revered by those same people, despite child molestation charges, because he could sing and dance.
Too bad George and Cindy can’t sing! LOL
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Oh my goodness! Just went to CNN.com and Jesse Jackson is getting in on MJ’s death. Let the circus begin.
I just hope somehow MJ’s kids can be shielded from all this.
mikka // June 27, 2009 at 1:10 pm
sheron,so true,MJ is only 2 days dead and already she start to digging around dirt of him,i hate this.let this people rest in peace!!
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 1:10 pm
That’s an excellent contrast. Michael Jackson brought music to the world. Caylee never had a chance to show her talents and George & Cindy are to blame. Go figure.
I did look up The Hangover and I remember seeing trailers for it, probably because of Mike Tyson. I heard he was a real sport and a nice guy when you get to know him, but I wouldn’t want to be on his bad side.
Sheron // June 27, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Oh and Dave, speaking of George Reeves – if you haven’t seen Hollywoodland, you should rent it.
That movie was excellent. Ben Affleck and Diane Lane were amazing. Their big fight/break-up scene made me cringe it was so realistic. Five minutes into the movie you forget Ben is Ben – he becomes George so convincingly.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I do want to see that movie, Sheron, because I was a real big Superman fan when I was young. It was my favorite show and I remember being angry that JFK died and all that was on TV was the assassination, the funeral coverage, and NO SUPERMAN! Of course, the loss of the president was a huge event and I mourned, too, but the death of George Reeves has always intrigued me. Besides, I think Diane Lane is one smokin’ babe. Hot.
knight Owl // June 27, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Michael Jackson i have to agree wtih Mikka . We have no way to know one way or the other if he was a pediphile or not for the obvious of reasons.
Michael a worldwide famous rich entertainer .(which can make for an easy target)
Were dealing with children with parents that could coerce their children in to saying what they want them to say for a get rich money scheme.
Michael saying he thought nothing wrong with sleeping in the same bed with children could mean just that, it has been stated Michael said he never wanted to grow up and was like a big kid. He didn’t have a childhood as he started performing at the age of five. He spoke of his abusive Father on Oprah Winfrey show . I did a lot of reading up on his childhood life, his performance life and found out a lot of things i did not know. It read his Dad sat in a chair with a belt and watched Michael and his brothers perform and if they didn’t get it just right, he would really tear them up. Also his Dad put on a scarey mask and climbed in Michael’s bedroom window when he was asleep and scared him so badly he had nitemares for years afterwards as it made him fear someone might take him. His Dad said he was trying to teach his kids to not sleep with a bedroom window open. If this is true i find that a very disturbing way to teach a child to keep a window closed. Michael would throw up when seeing his father or feel like throwing up as a child. I believe Michael had lots of demons due to his bad childhood at the hands of his Father. I cannot say he was a pediphile as only he and the victim would no that answer. a jury found him not guilty. I See it odd his kids always wear masks or veils to hide their faces but in Micheal’s eyes he could be not wanting their faces shown due to he is so famous someone might try to steal them. Hanging the baby over the balcony was to me dumb , not something i would have done but to Micheal again, could be his weird way he wanted to show the fans the baby even though he hides their faces and didn’t think it was a bad thing to hang it over the balcony. who knows. But what i do know in my opinion is the following.
To me Michael Jackson is an icon of phenomanol proportions in the same sense as Elvis Presley was , through his amazing talent not only as a singer but his uniqueness like Elvis to Wow a crowd to the magnitude no one else has been able to do since Elvis Presley and no one will ever be able to. The moomwalk he invented and his creativeness in dance, (i personaly could have done without the Madonna style crotch grabbing part, but that is just me), Michael did a lot of good things aside entertain, his donations for one , for relief for children in other countries that were suffering just as an example.
I am 58 this year. I grew up in the Elvis era. I was a kid the first time i saw him on tv. I still miss Elvis today and wish he had not died so young. Elvis is still alive within people today that still remember him and love him. I believe Micheal Jackson’s Legacy will be the same and he too will live on in his music and through the many fans that Love him and will remain an icon for the duration of his generations lifetime the same as Elvis has done through my generation and still today maintains too. Elvis Presley is the true King Of Rock. Michael Jackson is the true King Of Pop. They were both individuals each different yet sent us over the moon with their talents. Michael will be missed.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Dave~~I went back and read some of the posts when you first took over the Casey Anthony saga. The first half dozen, I hadn’t read before. Oh my, how times have changed and your posts. You have come a long way. It was fun reading our theories knowing what we do today.
Here is the very first comment I made on your blog…
It was Dec 25th. I believe the slacks that were washed by Cindy belonged to Casey but I may be mistaken.
Hope you feel better soon Dave, not a nice time of year to be sick.
My next comments should have warned me what was in store associating myself with you…It was on Jan 13/08-1:06pm
testing
Here is your comment back to me on Jan 13/08-1.47pm
Ah… trying to get testy with me, huh?
Dave, was this an omen…I laughed so hard when I found those.
I noticed that early in the days of blogging, you tried your best to keep the peace with over zealous commenters. LOL

Hi Dave, been feeling really lousey again with sinus problems and bad headaches. geez, i did not know i wrote a small book here. Hope your doing well. no time to write anymore today as have company coming soon. were not having a good 2009, Ed MCmann, farrah, and now Michael. Next i fear is Patrick Swayze. I am still hoping for a miracle for Patrick like i did Farrah . ones that did leave us will be missed. talk again soon.

knight Owl // June 27, 2009 at 4:50 pm
By the way, A BIG HELLO to all the other guest too. now must go. bye to all.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 4:59 pm
That was truly a nice eulogy, knight Owl. Very nice. Today, we look at musicians from hundreds of years ago and no one knows a thing about their personal lives. For instance, Mozart had a real butt fetish, only it was directed at women. He wrote scatological music, the canon “Leck mich im Arsch” and I will not translate it for you because my point is, no one thinks about his kinkiness today. Just as I feel the Beatles will live forever, so will MJ, more so than Elvis over time because of one simple reason: Elvis didn’t really write his own music. Trust me, I’m not knocking him for it, but most of the people we remember are those that left more than just a voice.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 5:02 pm
That’s funny, detwill39. I was still green and wet behind the ears back then. Yes, we’ve definitely come a long way since those days. The commenters were quite ruthless and it took me awhile to simmer down.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Patrick Swayze is a good guy and I hope he makes it. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst, though. I’m sorry you’ve been feeling badly these days, knight Owl. Is it on account of the summer and allergies? Anyway, I know you must go, but please tell us when your birthday is. Have fun with your company!

Hi guys. Just popped in for a minute, the girls and I are off to dinner. I will bbl. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend, we had fun white water rafting however I broke my thumb, it was so funny. I mean it hurt but we had fun!
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Come back when you can, Laura. Have a nice dinner. I’m happy you had fun with your girls.
magog2 // June 27, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Hello everyone,
Just popping in to say hello. I have been so busy this summer and haven’t had much time for the computer.
I did read some of the responses regarding MJ’s death. If it is true that he does take all of the drugs that the media is saying he takes he should have known it could kill him and I am sure his doctor told him the consequences. I just don’t understand why people do this to themselves. I think he was self destructive , drugs, surgeries, anorexia. He weighed 125 lbs and was 5′ 10″ when he died.
When I was in Vegas a few years ago I was talking to a waitress at one of the casinos and I asked her which person was the most difficult to deal with in this restaurant and she said Joe Jackson. I guess he was and is a SOB. RIP in Michael.
I hope everyone is well and enjoying their summer. A lot of rain going on here up in cow country.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Magog2 – It is so great to hear from you. I, for one, was wondering, but it is great to hear you’ve been busy. Thanks for letting us know and stay well.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 6:42 pm
I just spoke to my sister-in-law, Lindsay. She is married to my older brother, Sam. She said she ran into Dr. G today at Macy’s in the Altamonte Mall. Did you talk to her? Yes, I asked her why she never wears a mask. Isn’t she afraid of all that goop splashing up in her face? No, she said. I told her those parts of her show are probably reenactments, anyway. I just thought I’d share that.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Dave~~wow, you know people who know people in high places. Way to go!!
So, if I know you, and you know people, who know people in high places, then I know someone who knows someone who knows Dr G.
Hey, ya know, I know Dr G…must call my girls and let them know that I know her.
Someone spiked my orange juice…
laura // June 27, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Detwill you are funny. Was your friends excited to find out that you have a friend that has a sister in law that knows Dr. G? Dinner was good we went to Cheesecake Factory, love their pasta!
laura // June 27, 2009 at 7:11 pm
1 other thing who spiked your O.J.? Was it you?
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 7:12 pm
I remember when my good friend, Frank’s father was alive. He was a state senator from NJ. Google him sometime, Walter E. Foran. He was friends with Nixon, Ford and Reagan. I knew the senator well. That’s a very close and direct link to 3 presidents. I’m sure he knew a lot more. Anyway, his brother was Dick Foran, a Hollywood actor and singing cowboy. Frank still lives in NJ and we still talk a lot on the phone.
As for Dr. G, I haven’t met her, but if I do… watch out!
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Dave~~my youngest daughter’s hubby was born in Scotland and raised in London. He corresponds with Queen Elizabeth. He found her while doing his ancestry or so he says. I think she is a cousin about a few dozen times removed. At times, I think his brain has been removed. He is the one that loves Jeopardy.
I am beginning to see a resemblence between you and him.
He is that Bass Doctor…the one I linked you to.
I am forced to love you both…LOL
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Oh yes, I remember him. Tally-Ho! I have a similar one to that, but in dog years. My sister and Bud have yellow labs. Supposedly, Prince Charles’ dog got loose one day and impregnated a neighbor’s dog and that dog’s litter was where their dogs came from, I don’t know how many generations down the road, but they say it’s true. So there.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Where did Laura disappear to? I hope they didn’t hi-jack her over there.

My dog is a shih tzu, he is not related to any famous dogs. The only famous people I know is Peyton Manning and Tony Dungee. I met Tony Stewart a few years ago. But only sports people.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Yes there grammar was not very good. The last comment I stopped reading half way through because I could not understand it. You are a shameful person Dave causing a stir like that. lol
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:06 pm
their grammar, my isn’t very good either.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:07 pm
You should tell us how you happen to know Manning and Dungee. I wouldn’t mind meeting Stewart.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:11 pm
I met them at a Carson Scholars dinner. Dr.Carson was suppose to be there for a speech he couldn’t make it but the Colts are/was big into giving back to the community, I was there they was there. Plus I have helped out with some of the Colts Auctions. Dungee is the nicest man you will ever meet, Peyton is shy.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:13 pm
I know about Dungee from his Tampa Bay days and he was a good Christian man and the salt of the earth. He was very active in his community and in charities.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Tony Stewart on the other hand was more interesting. I was at track with a few of my girlfriends, Tony was coming off the track on golf cart. A few camera crews came up to get photos of him, I was pushed into the path of his golf cart. (almost ran over) His driver stopped to be sure I was okay, Tony gave me and my friends garage passes. He is very nice unless you pizz him off then he acts like a toddler, it is kind of funny though.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Dungee still is, he was back in town before prom season. He still helps out with teens/alcohol. I am not sure if he will stay retired, he seems to be a worker.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Six years ago, I had a golden cocker spaniel, Brandlyn Deanie Highland Dance. Her grandfather was Freddie the Freeloader from England. Does that make me famous?
I am terrified to tell my son-in-law about this. He will try and connect Brandy with Bonnie Prince Charlie’s pooch. Oh chit, I could be related to Dave thru a dog.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:30 pm
That’s pretty interesting. I’ve been a Stewart fan for a number of years now. That was nice of him to give you garage passes.
I know Dungy continued doing work in the Tampa area for a few years at lest. I don’t know if he still does, but his family stayed in Tampa for a couple of years on account of school.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Imagine that, detwill39! Franks best friend used to work the sound or lights, I don’t remember, for Billy Joel. Take that!
laura // June 27, 2009 at 8:39 pm
His wife and kids moved back to Tampa before the beginning of last season. They are all back in Tampa now. They still ave their house in Carmel but they live in Florida. It was nice of Tony, but I was very close to getting ran over he felt responsible because they wanted his photo.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 8:57 pm
I guess I didn’t know whether he had ever moved out of Tampa or not. I guess he didn’t. Thanks, Laura. I learn something good from you every day.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 9:04 pm
No problem. His family loves Tampa that is home to them. Florida is lucky to have him and his wife. They do a lot of charitable things for the community. Tony expected a lot from his players to if they got in trouble with the law they was gone. If they played for his team they volunteered their time to work with youth in the community. St. Vincent’s Hospital named their children hospital after Peyton Manning. Him and his wife volunteer a lot of time and money there. I think all pro football/basketball players should have those kind of standards.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 9:20 pm
I absolutely agree with you. Dungee instills a lot of high moral standards in people he works with. I think in Manning’s case, he comes from a very good family. The whole Manning family is top notch, just like you, Laura.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 9:44 pm
How sweet. The Manning family are good people. I think some people just doesn’t let fame go their heads. Sorry it took so long to comment back, I was wrapping my thumb back and taking medicine.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 9:46 pm
You didn’t tell me you hurt your thumb. What happened?
knight Owl // June 27, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Dave, i really should say i am more in the MJ era than Elvis due to my age but i just cannot see me in MJ’S era like i can Elvis and until MJ died i had no idea he was 50. I have kept him much younger than that. Elvis was born jan.8th 1935, in tupelo mississippi. He died august 16, 1977. I was 26 when he died and had really just gotten in to loving Elvis and his songs. I remember him being on tv when i was a kid and my parents didn’t like his swinging those hips around, can you imagine that? I can’t say i can agree that Michael will end up bigger than Elvis one day even though he wrote his own songs. I personaly don’t believe anyone will ever be any bigger than Elvis. I mean Elvis has been dead 32 years and he is still as big today as he ever was. That i find truly amazing~ i guess time will tell who is right, you or I.
To answer your birthday question, mine is july 23,1950. Wow i have just blown my mind here realizing Elvis has been dead 32 years. Time has really gone by.
other question you asked, yes my allergies cause bad headaches that are hard to get rid of and cause sinus infections at times. I am worse since i adopted stray kitty Louie two years ago, but he is the family baby now so no finding him a new home.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 9:56 pm

knight Owl // June 27, 2009 at 10:02 pm

I love him and i will always associate him with the movie Dirty Dancing and yes he has a killer cancer that has very few survivor’s . it is a real shame as he is only two years younger than i am. has a great wife in Lisa too. I am still praying for a miracle for him.

Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Louie. One word melted my heart. My friend, Frank, who I mentioned earlier has bad allergies. He called me the other day on his way home from Harrisburg to NJ. I could tell his sinuses were all stuffed up. Mine get that way now, but not nearly as bad as him. I remember about 5 years ago a woman I designed a monthly magazine for told me when I get older I would have allergies. I still don’t think I do, but my minor sinus flare-ups could be from that.
I think what I’m talking about Elvis and MJ or Elvis and the Beatles is that Beethoven is Beethoven and he’s remembered for his music, not for how he sang or played an instrument. No doubt Elvis will live on and on in his music, but for purists, he was more of a personality than a musician. Just like john Wayne lives on in movies, so shall Elvis because of perpetual recordings. To the music aficionado, though, a real purist, it is the piece of paper that lasts because 1,000 years from now, someone can pick up a piece of sheet music, whatever form it will be generations hence, and play it. Will people remember Elvis the singer or John Lennon the writer of music?

LosAngeles // June 27, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Hi all. I think this is as great a post as any to give opionions on. How true it is that real forensic detective work is rarely as exciting and foolproof as it’s portrayed on television, or as quickly solved. Also, I think there is a lot less drama involved in real-life events, although it can be exciting and rewarding.
Koblinsky stated that it’s not as you see it on televisions because they’re trying to make it more glamorous, and that it may be entertaining, but not realisitic.
I’ve heard other criminal justice experts say the same thing.
As far as the defense saying “no proof of
murder”, that’s what the defense says in all high publicity cases which almost always involve big money. If the lawyer didn’t stand up and scream “no proof of murder” in this type of case, the lawyer would be fired quickly, and receive a much diminished paycheck.
Keeping in mind that most courts cases are not high publicity and are very short. And also most cases are pled out and never make it to trial.
Keeping in mind that Koblinsky, before he was hired by the defense team, was saying one thing on the Nancy Grace show. And then, as soon as he was hired by the defense, he completely changed his tune on the Nancy Grace show.
It’s interesting to note the contrast of what he said about the Caylee case on the NG show before he was hired by the defense, and what he said about the Caylee case on NG show after he was hired by the defense.
I’m sure it can be easily found on the internet.
It’s noteworthy how seemingly equal experts draw different conclusions from the medical examiner’s autopsy report.
I hope we have some wise people on the jury with a fair degree of scientific acumen and intelligence, and who don’t get overly-emotional about disagreements or take disagreements too personally.
laura // June 27, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Hi, LosAngeles. Good to have you join in, just when everyone is saying their good nights, too.
Your comment reminds me of a couple, you know, boy/girl sort of thing. They meet. They date. They can’t get enough of each other. They fall in love. Boy thinks girl is perfect. Poop doesn’t stink. This goes on. THEN. They have petty quarrels. They argue. They fight. They break up. Boy no longer thinks girl is perfect. Girl already knew boy was asshole. Boy curses girl. In the end, neither one of them have anything nice to say about each other. It’s no different in professional relationships. Lawyer tells NG Casey is guilty. Casey hires lawyer. Casey is no longer guilty.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:26 pm
I know how old you are and I’m not telling. Leos and Virgos get along great. Did you know that?
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 10:28 pm
She broke her thumb and told him when she first came in here this evening but he didn’t remember. See her post at 5:18pm.
I wanted to tell her how sorry I was that she broke her thumb but thought, “no, I will let him be macho and tell her he would kiss it and make it all better.”
She tries to tell him again and all she gets is a ’sorry’ and a ‘poor baby’… then he leads right in with his own broken pinky. Yeah for the big macho guy, a few hours of ice and no more pain.
Is it my imagination or are all men just a tad …? Darn, I can’t find the right word, can you?
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Actually, I did want to kiss it, but I am a realist. It doesn’t make it better and her thumb is over a thousand miles away from my lips.
There, I was down on one knee when I wrote that. Tears are in my eyes. I’m all choked up. Who has a tissue?
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Toilet tissue ….chit head

Chuckle, chuckle, snort.
Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 10:37 pm

Detwill39 // June 27, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Off to bed Davie….get your teddy bear out of the shoe box….nitey nite
Kari // June 27, 2009 at 10:41 pm
I’m guessing that after “hours and hours” on ice there was no more pain because there was no more feeling! Lucky if there wasn’t frostbite.
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 10:48 pm
No, no frostbite. I am off to bed, too.
LosAngeles // June 27, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Hi to you also Dave.
I know. I know. Everyone’s saying good night. My timing is so bad on this blog with my schedule and all. And my Los Angeles time being 3 hours behind a lot of you doesn’t help either. Oh, well.
There was this one part in my post above that I didn’t want in there, so I thought I deleted it. But I realized after I submitted it, that I had forgot to delete that one part. And that one part doesn’t even flow with the rest of my comment, and it kind of makes the flow of the whole comment sound so strange to me. It’s strange how if you have one sentence in there that doesn’t belong there, it can throw the whole thing off and sound odd.
Well, apparently, that’s why it’s so important to proof read one’s writings.
LosAngeles // June 27, 2009 at 11:17 pm
I’m so sorry you broke your thumb, Laura. Please be careful and don’t rush around so much. I hope you have it X-rayed.
LosAngeles // June 27, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Knight Owl, I know you already left because you said good night already.
But I just wanted to tell you that my mother-in-law also liked Elvis Presley.
It makes me laugh when I think of the fact that she even had Elvis Presley stamps.(I’m sorry if I’m not spelling his name right.)

Dave – Thanks for your comments re Michael Jackson and Marie Griffiths.
I knew when Michael died the way he did it would open up the door for intense speculation….probably forever. I thought it strange that his father was there, only because I read and heard he never forgave his father for earlier abuse(s). Now I hear LE is looking for the his doctor who was there and they towed his car. I heard within the last year that Michael was possibly overusing prescription drugs and that didn’t surprise me. And I agree with you that considering his condition he was probably taxing his body trying to get in shape for his next upcoming tour.
I found the Marie Griffiths information by googling her and within seconds it was there. It doesn’t mean there is anything to it. There were dead horse carcasses buried there recently and they just wanted to check to make sure Haylee’s bones weren’t mixed in. Supposedly her family was the one who initiated it, although I also heard it was a tip.

Thanks Detwill for setting Dave straight about the thumb. I had a x-ray on it, they set it and put a splint on it. It does not hurt today and if it did I wouldn’t care because the fun I had with my kids far out weighed the pain. Dave you don’t have to cry you probably only read part of my comment was so happy to see me you over looked my thumb, that is what happened RIGHT? I tried to wake the girls for Mass this morning, but they wouldn’t get up. I think I will surprise them and do the evening Mass. Teenagers try their hardest to get out of church.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 10:00 am
Yes indeedy, Laura. I missed you and that’s what happened. I don’t know how I overlooked it because I always perk up when I see the pretty elephant.

I heard MJ’s father was in Las Vegas when he got the news and took the first flight out.

I am glad you perk up when you see a pretty elephant, unfortunately I look nothing like the pretty elephant! How are you doing today?
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 10:22 am
I’m OK, thank you. It’s not the elephant that perks me up, it’s the person behind it. I’m glad to hear your thumb doesn’t hurt.

I think it could be the medicine that they gave me. How is your chest pains? Have you made appointment yet?
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 10:43 am
Chest pains have been minimal the past few days, but I do have an appointment Tuesday morning at 10. Then, I should get a referral to see a cardiologist. What are you up to today?
laura // June 28, 2009 at 10:49 am
I am waiting on the kids to get up. I think we are probably going to hang around the house today. I may go to the mall with them, we need to get a few summer clothes, then to mass at 5. Nothing exciting I can not afford to injure myself or them today. I need to cut my grass, and weed the flower beds. I guess I am doing stuff today.

TV pitchman, Billy Mays, is found dead!
TMZ has confirmed TV pitchman Billy Mays was found dead today in his home in Tampa, Florida.
According to the Tampa PD, Mays was pronounced dead at 7:45 AM.
The 50-year-old was found by his wife early this morning.
TMZ has learned Mays’ body has already been removed from his home.
There are reports that Mays had just returned from Philadelphia, where he shot a new Oxiclean commercial.
We’re told Mays was at his home around 6pm last night, and according to a source Mays was “acting fine and normal … he was talking business with his father-in-law.”

Mays was on the US Airways flight from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Tampa on Saturday that had a hard landing at Tampa International Airport when the plane’s front tire blew out. There were no reported injuries on Flight 1241, US Airways told CNN.
According to a local Tampa TV station, Mays said: “All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.”

I’ve always felt so bad for the ones who die in airplane crashes. That has to be the most awful experience one can imagine.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I read about that hard landing right after I heard about his death. I wonder if that caused too much strain on his ticker.
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Dave~~I would be more inclined to think that if the hit on Billy’s head caused his death, it would be from swelling or even a ruptured vessel while he was asleep. Depending on which area of the head, he got the hit, swelling after the fact, could shut down his vitals. They are going to do an autopsy. I do not know if he had a history of heart disease.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 2:49 pm
No, I didn’t mean that. I suppositioned that the shock from the hard landing may have agitated his heart.
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 5:33 pm
I have always maintained that LE are holding back pertinent info re Casey Anthony and I believe that the info is related to fingerprints, Casey’s fingerprints. When Dr G did the autopsy, a piece of bone was ground up for testing. I just found out that, if the victim had drugs in their system at the time of death, that drugs could still be detected in the bone residue years later.
For those who like to analyze the evidence we have been privvy to, and wonder about the evidence that has not been released, this is a must read…( I swiped it from another blog site)..
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-06-21/the-evidence-yoursquore-not-allowed-to-see/
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I know we haven’t had access to everything and I saw that post on Niecey’s today. I don’t know what we haven’t been told, but the autopsy results came back as negative for drugs. I do not believe the state is withholding any info from us on that aspect of it. As for fingerprints, maybe. I wouldn’t even go so far (personally) to go out on a limb and deny that there’s a possibility of partials or completes laying around somewhere.
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Dave~~when playing poker, you generally hold your best cards ’til last. Maybe that was Auction 45, Cribbage…
Sleuths are thiefs and I swiped it from Nieceys…I am guilty.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Oooh. I think Wendy Murphy is a little cutey. I like a woman like her… intelligent, good looking, independent. That was a very good article, but I still don’t think drugs will fit into the crime.
Hey! You’re no thief. She stole it first.
Id'claire // June 28, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Dave, Thanks for keeping us posted on the Anthony case. Little stuff goes on but doesn’t make the news or other outlets.
You know we gotta have all the tiny bits to get this case tried before trial!!
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 6:53 pm
It does seem to be slowly trickling in, Id’claire, and I mean slowly. I do have a new post about the case tomorrow, though. Thanks for the appreciation, but whatever came today was from detwill39.
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Id’claire~~yes Dave certainly keeps us updated with all the current stuff!!
Drugs will play a significent role in this case.
Autopsy results came back negative for drugs on the hair. Bone result for drugs are still pending.
Was a partial roll of duct tape found at the Anthony home? Fingerprints on roll of tape? Did the perforated tear on tape match tape found at scene? Did Casey ever return Amy’s duct tape?
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Dunno, but I still don’t believe drugs will fit into it. I don’t think she kept the girl drugged all the time. I think she would have acted strangely around family members and certainly Cindy, a nurse, would have noticed something. I can’t say that with complete certainty, but kids on drugs, whether they’ve warn off or not, act lethargic. They sense that something isn’t quite right.
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 7:11 pm
I am referring to drugs at the time of death and not necessarily administered over a period of time.
Check your mail in a few…I am going to send you something…

Detwill, thanks for the link back to Wendy Murphy. That was instructive. Sort of like your art teacher reminding you to make use of the ‘negative space’. While we consider what we are told, we must also consider what we are not told!
Detwill39 // June 28, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Kari~~I agree that Wendy wrote a great article. I liked her honesty that, if they have limited evidence, Casey can get off. The jury will not have been exposed to all the info we have viewed and weighed. Wendy must have children, the way she mentioned ‘mother bear’ instinct.
Padilla gave a sworn statement to LE and I believe Mark Hawkins did as well…I am still waiting to see those.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 9:51 pm
I would think LE is holding back pertinent information.
When drugs are detected in the bones years later, I thought it depended on what type of drug it was, and how long the deceased had been ingesting the drug. That doesn’t mean I’m saying yay or nay as to whether LE is holding back drug evidence.(That was a pre-emptive mitigating sentence)
Dave, you must make a citizen’s arrest of Detwill immediately, for swiping.
I sure would like to know more particulars about the duct tape.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Dave, is there any way you could throw us out a clue on what your post about the case tomorrow is going to be about?
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 9:57 pm

I like Wendy, too! She’s too cute, and a spitfire!
Detwill, I have held on this long that they were holding back something on fingerprints – I am with you! But, according to the last doc dump, no Casey prints on duct tape. Supposedly it was spelled out clearly – no Casey prints. I did not read the docs myself, just going from what I read from others.
I can only surmise 2 scenarios. 1. Casey really was smart enough to wear latex gloves and not leave prints; 2. The weather tooks its toll.
I heard about the Oxy Clean spokesman at the Astros game today! I couldn’t believe it! He was so young! I was given tickets for my birthday – they were great seats. The guy sitting in front of me told me about it. If anyone followed the Astros game today – you know I was having a fit. ONE STRIKE AWAY FROM WINNING.
Whatever. I hate baseball. Until the next game.

Dee // June 29, 2009 at 9:57 am
Dave – I haven’t gotten through all the posts – or read your MJ article yet (that comes next) – but did get to your post on being anrgy when JFK died – ME TOO ! Yes, it was terrible that the President was assassinated, and I was scared (that is a whole story by itself). But the TV – all the stations – just had that on for days, and days – no cartoons, no Superman, just this terrible thing – in black and white. It was a very long weekend – of darkness – to a kid’s mind’s eye.
Well, this weekend, I was just as put out about all the MJ coverage. Alright already. I did stumble upon ‘Farrah’s Story’, which brought me to tears. All the MJ stuff I have seen before.
As for the molestation charges, as much as that put the darkness in us all – for and about MJ, nothing was ever PROVEN. He was brazenly open about boys in his bed, and MJ was not a stupid person, or fool – not by a long shot. Would he be so open about it if he was doing something sexual – if one of those kids could come forward and make a claim? And how many kids had he been close with over the years? Lots and lots and lots – and lots more.
OK – I know a lot about pediphiles – who didn’t read up on it back then. I get the Neverland, toy enticing thing. I get they don’t think anything is wrong with it. I get, MJ fits the profile. But only 2 came forward. The first one took a pay off, and the father was caught on tape, talking about being set for life, if he could pull this off. A decade later, the second, a poor, English-as-2nd language boy, with illiterate mother, broken home, etc.- was a perfect victim – for pediphile – or for manipulation by a savvy con. Both boy and mother, in that case, came off very badly on the witness stand, and MJ was found not guilty.
It is an easy accusation to make – true or not. Not easy to prove or disprove, true or not. It ruined MJ’s career here, for a decade. True or not. The tour he was rehearsing for was to be his comeback.
I truly believe he was – in his mind – a kid – still – at 35 – at 45 (and that he didn’t start to grow up until he had his own kids). We see it as perverted, but he did not. I do not believe (if he did anything at all) that he went beyond doing what pre-teen and teen boys do – when with each other, when no adults are around. Messing around. Yeah self pleasuring – but not to each other, but only to self. Or maybe he just gave boys the privacy to do that stuff – and he didn’t participate. He really had a crappy childhood, filled with tours and travel and motels, with all the groupie sex stuff going on around him, in same room, while he hid under the covers.
Don’t boys that age do stuff like – looking a mags, women, and other ‘questionable stuff – like lighting farts????
I don’t see MJ even going so far as lighting farts – he’d have found it gross. I may be wrong, but I see MJ as a forever virgin, who never wanted to go beyond that boyhood stage of first awakening. He got stuck there – and stuck there – and stayed there, like a broken record, but never breaking his virginity. I mean, kids can be concieved in other ways . . .
Maybe this is all just me – wanting to see MJ the way I want to see him – forever. Peter Pan, one of the Lost Boys. He did perpetuate that image. His goal was to make THAT a reality – and I bought into it. But not hook line and sinker.
There is this place in my brain – a place of doubt . . .
I may be wrong, we may see a lot of ‘now-men’, ‘then-boys’, coming forward – NOW – that MJ is dead and cannot defend himself. If so, all I can say is – WHY didn’t you come forward back when it counted? What kind of person comes out now, after he is dead? Well, someone wanting money/fame/notoriety – and hey, we are ripe for it. Fits right in with the Casey Anthony tabloid press . . . Wouldn’t we just love to rip apart a dead icon . . . Ah, blood lust.
I think the truth comes out eventually – can’t keep it quiet forever – when others are involved. No secret can be kept when more than one person knows. So – we will probably find out more now about MJ, than was ever public before, but anyone who comes forward now, about molestation charges, will always be under a cloud of suspicion – just as MJ has been all these years.
That’s how ugly this accusation is – and it has to be proven in a court of law. The stain of it, even if found not guilty, never leaves the accused. Never. So don’t make it, unless it is true – and then come forward and fight for justice all the way, even if you don’t get it.
Everyone made up their own minds, on this, long ago. Let the man rest in peace.
Marinade Dave // June 29, 2009 at 10:19 am
That’s quite an impressive comment, Dee, and full of some very good thoughts. It’s interesting that you have the same memories as me about the JFK assassination. I can clearly remember watching Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald on live television and exactly where I was at that moment. I also remember our teacher coming out during recess to take us back inside to give us the news that the president had been shot. They sent us all home after news broke that he had died. My homeroom teacher, Mrs. Dole, was crying, along with lots of other teachers. It was a very sad day.
About MJ, news reports were surfacing today that Jordy Chandler, the (then) 13 year old boy has stepped forward in the wake of MJ’s death and confessed that his father made him do it, that it was all a lie and he wanted to rid himself of the guilt. If this is true, he and his father should be charged with crimes and sent to jail. Were any of the sexual abuse allegations true? If not, Michael Jackson carried that horrendous burden with him for all these years. That is sad. You are right. The stain stayed with him.
Dee // June 29, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Dave – my experience at school too. At recess, a very long time went by (as I played out an entire tenseys set in jacks – and there is never enough time for that – and the next girl started when I finished. I wondered up to the doors, then my classroom windows, to peer in. What was going on? My teacher was crying at her desk. Then we were called in, told President Kennedy was shot – in the head. I thought, Well, that’s OK, he’s not dead – he’s just shot. In the head. That frightened me – but I really had this hope he’d be OK – tomorrow. Then we were told he died, and were sent out to the buses to go home. Very frightening – we had no President -the most important man in the world.
Oh my God – if that is true about Jordy Chandler – I could just cry – for the suffereing MJ went through, from that moment on, his generosity and kindness under such a terrible dark cloud of suspicion. And yes, the father should be prosecuted – but maybe not Jordy. He was a kid. And I hope he does come forward – with the truth. The stain will be with him now, for all the rest of his life . . .
Marinade Dave // June 29, 2009 at 3:14 pm
There were a couple of sources that reported the Chandler story, but I haven’t seen it on mainstream news yet. They came from WordPress and I saw them when I logged into the account.
Yeah, for sure, that Kennedy assassination was the pits. I remember watching the caisson stroll down Pennsylvania Avenue in glorious black & white.
Dee // June 29, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I haven’t found anything on Chandler in mainstream media either. Yet.
Yes, I remember the caisson too – and little John saluting his dad. Gees.
Barbie Girl // June 29, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Dave and all -
I agree with and think that Michael Jackson never really recovered from the second accusation. If, indeed, he did not do anything, not only was he victimized by the child’s family but by Martin Bashir who filmed the documentary. I think he died a broken man and never fully recovered from trust issues or his image being so tarnished beyond recovery.
I don’t defend Michael but do think he used poor judgment in so many ways (such as danling the poor baby from the balcony), wearing masks, living with a chimp, sleeping in a coffin and other odd behavior.
I think he wasn’t eating at the end because he was suffering from depression and had given up on life.
Even children could not fill the void that was taken from him when his childhood was interrupted before it could ever begin and a healthy life could flourish.
He died of a broken heart.
Barbie Girl
Marinade Dave // June 29, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Although, Barbie Girl, detwill39’s link to the examiner explains why wearing a mask was a good idea because of his vitiligo and lupus.
LosAngeles // June 29, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I know in the internet questions are always swirling around about celebrities, especially now Michael Jackson since he died.
“He did have lupus?”
“He did not have lupus?”
and so many other questions.
The lupus question will be settled in the final autopsy report. That’s indisputable.
Detwill39 // June 29, 2009 at 9:50 pm
LA~~It is also a known fact that celebrities tend to hide their illnesses from the public as long as possible. Lupus is a very painful disease. I don’t think Michael was on strong pain killers for headaches or minor pain.
Lupus is not a disease that one should be ashamed of but on a second thought, a performer is out on the stage looking for praise, not pity.

I have triple-blog confusion.
I’m ping-ponging between these 3 blogs of Dave’s.
Detwill39 // June 29, 2009 at 10:13 pm
LA~~Dave only has one blog and oodles of posts. You have been playing ping pong between his posts.
Dave told me months ago that He is a blogger and owns a blog. He writes the posts. I was a commenter who made comments. Somewhere in that mess, he is also a moderator of his blog.

Okay, I’ll make a note. Blogs and posts; two different things.
It makes sense to keep the correct nomenclature, otherwise when people are talking, no one knows what the other person is talking about.

Dave
Michael lived such a secluded life we may never know what secrets it held.
It reminds me of Elvis and Howard Hughes in their last days — paranoid, surrounded by enablers, mentally ill and spiritually devoid of emotion.
I am sure some truths will come out eventually as times goes on.
Little Caylee’s secrets, however, I believe died with her on that eventful day when Casey took matters in her own hands and for whatever reasons accidentally or intentionally made her breathe her last breath on this earth.
May she rest in peace.

My niece has vitiligo and does not wear a mask??! I don’t get why you’d need to wear one. For lupus, either.
Bad news – had to put down another cat last night. 2 in 2 weeks?! Crazy. Oldest daughter in ER today – but that all turned out OK. Thank goodness, nothing major wrong.
Why do I feel like a little black rain cloud?!
Great news! Owner of Taste of Texas called me Monday and scheduled an interview on next Monday. Sounded like a really nice man. I almost didn’t answer the call because of the area code – I get LOTS of wrong numbers looking for the Scottish Inn – I don’t know what is up with that, but it’s been happening since I got this cell number 7 years ago. I am soooo glad I answered.
Now, he asked me to compose a little letter telling him all about me, before the interview. Goodness, it would take 3 pages!! I have to condense myself.

Sheron, Best thoughts and good luck for what you want in a workplace.

Aw, thanks so much Beatrice and Dee!! Life turns around all the time.
The owner invited me to take a tour of the restaurant before our interview. I am so excited about that! What a great idea on his part. So, I am going in the morning. Now for the interview, I will already know lots of things. And have met lots of people.
I already like his business sense.

Not trying to perpetuate this post. Perhaps I should go the Open Forum! LOL I haven’t been there in a long time.
Tour was fantastic. The restaurant is just beautiful. As a patron, I didn’t notice much; as a possible employee I noticed everything. Everybody was bustling about getting ready to open for lunch. Such happy people. The kitchen is awesome. I asked my guide if they have seen a decrease in income because of the economy. She said no. They just had a record high Father’s Day. Still packed everyday for lunch and dinner. Music to my ears. This owner is obviously not scared of the economy, and continues to make improvements. They had drills out doing something when I got there! LOL Always working, always improving. Confidence. Taste of Texas is like a landmark in Houston, so I understand the confidence. But it just makes me gitty to think about working for someone with that kind of confidence and skill. I want some of that. He and his wife were 26 years old, both working at Steak and Ale, back in 1977, and they had the gumption to start their own restaurant. And now it’s a landmark for Houston.
After this comment, I will start taking it to Open Forum. And let y’all know how the interview Monday goes!

That’s great, Sheron, and I’m glad you are happy with your potential new digs. Please tell us all about your next interview. I don’t want to jinx you so I’ll just say that a second interview is a positive thing.
Beatrice // July 7, 2009 at 12:01 am
Sheron, How’s it going??
