Yesterday, I rode with my parents over to Cape Canaveral where my sister and her husband live. We ate at a restaurant called Milliken’s Reef.
In the photo, my father, Samuel, is on the left. Next to him is my mother, Dorothy. Next to them are my brother-in-law, Bud, and my sister, Maggie. I’m the one behind the camera and you’ve already seen enough of my face.
This is the tiki bar where my banner photo was taken many months ago. I’ve never sat there, nor have I ever had a cool and refreshing cocktail beverage. We always sit inside the restaurant and I can say that each time I’ve eaten there, the food has been very good. They bring out free baskets of hush puppies while you await your order and I must say they are delicious. My insulin challenged pancreas doesn’t like them, but my taste-buds do.

You took a good picture, Dave, and you have a nice looking family. That is, looking like they’re nice, and also nice-looking. Your sister looks much younger than you, and very pretty, with her blonde bangs.

Very cute family. It is always nice to see a happy family! I am glad you had a nice day.

Thank you, Amaya. I like it over there, but I don’t know if I’d like to live there. I love the ocean and all, but I have a lot of friends where I am now.

Thank you, Kari. My sister is three-and-a-half years younger than me. I have two brothers, too, one older, one younger. My younger brother is the only one born with brown hair. He and my sister are the only siblings out of the four that have hair.

Thank you, Laura. It was a relaxing afternoon.

Dave~~lovely family pic. Your mom looks so gentle and kind, her smile gives it away. Your sister is gorgeous. Everyone is very nice. Now I know where you got your good looks. Beauty comes from within, but with your family, it has spread to the outside as well. Thanks for sharing.
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Why thank you, detwill39, and I’m thankful that I can share. As for where I got my good looks, I think the Good Looks Fairy passed by my parents house back in 1952.
Detwill39 // June 25, 2009 at 4:09 pm
I have your pic and you are handsome although you look a bit sad in the photo. As a joke, I sent it to my Toronto daughter and said ‘here is your new daddy’… her answer came in an emergency phone call to me…she said, “Oh my God Mom, where did you find him, find me one too. ” I am bad aren’t I? She knows that I would never get that lucky, or someone that young.
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Oh, that’s hilarious, detwill39! I got a good roar out of it. Find her one, too. Poor woman doesn’t know what she’s be getting herself into.
Stewy // June 25, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Are you sure these people are really related to you? They appear too attractive. Especially, that person you “claim” is your sister.
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Very strange, isn’t it? You know, it’s funny, too, because I just spent a few days on the road with someone worse off than me.
Stewy // June 25, 2009 at 6:22 pm
Worse off then you? How could that be?
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Only in the fugly department. I saw you in your underwear in those motel rooms. Yuck. Two out of shape middle aged men.
Detwill39 // June 25, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Stewy~~maybe you can set us straight. Does Dave wear polka boxers or a pink thong?
I owe him one for that stupid peanut tree…
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Sorry, detwill39, butt he won’t kiss and tell.
Beatrice // June 25, 2009 at 7:08 pm
I made a nice comment here but it did not post, so I am
not going to tell you again what a GREAT LOOKING family
you have! I want to see your two brothers too someday
soon. You been holding out on us Dave. Seriously, you
can be a ” Proud Mary”nade.
Beatrice // June 25, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Detwll39. How did you get Dave’s picture?
Detwill39 // June 25, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Beatrice~~the pic was on a lamp pole, big bold letters…WANTED …I really didn’t want his mug shot, just the reward money.
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 7:45 pm
A “Proud Mary” nade. Now that’s an interesting concoction, Beatrice. A great looking family, huh? It wouldn’t have been that way if my puss was in the picture.

Why’dja call it “Part of the Whole?”
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Because the whole family, including me, would be the whole. This was only part of the family.
Coreysmom // June 25, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Handsome family!
Your brother-in-law is looking good, too, considering what he has gone through healthwise. Please give an update on him.
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 9:46 pm
He is in total remission and is back to the same old Bud with minor differences, believe it or not. The host donor remains anonymous, most likely came from Europe somewhere and Bud now has rhythm, something he never had. Also, he eats things he never cared for. Before the bone marrow transplant, his DNA was destroyed in order to accept the new. One of these days I’ll dig some of my old stories up on him, but there’s a link to one of them on the post I just wrote about my trip. It’s near the bottom and it references my previous road trip with Stewart. Thank you very much, Coreysmom.
Coreysmom // June 25, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I’ve heard of people changing after a transplant! If I ever need a transplant or blood transfusion I pray that I come out of it a better person due to the donor’s terrific personality!
You have heard of religions who refuse blood transfusions…well, I did a Bible study on it one time…”Life is in the blood…” guess there is something to it…
Marinade Dave // June 25, 2009 at 10:16 pm
I know I head a story a long time ago about a woman who underwent a heart transplant. She ate peanuts all her life and suddenly got deathly ill from them. The host donor was allergic to them. Fascinating, because that was just the heart.
Kari // June 25, 2009 at 10:45 pm
How fascinating, the idea that a transplanted organ might bring with it some characteristics of the donor… I do believe in inborn personality traits, but one usually doesn’t associate them with just a particular organ. Unless it would be the brain. Peanut allergy, you’d think that would be in the lymph system, or possibly the white blood cells. Hum. Most curious.
But you were kidding about the rhythm? Or weren’t you? That would really be inexplicable.
Kari // June 25, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Dave, I want to say thank you to you and all your marinaders. I am trying to lose weight and improve my life-condition, and you and the girls are a big help to me. Whenever life gets too boring or depressing, I jump online and connect with you-all and feel better. If I talk too much sometimes, that’s why, it’s cheap therapy I guess.
Although I always have thought the best, truest kind of counseling or talk therapy is not the kind you have to pay for, but the kind you get from friends who listen because they care. Funnily enough, I have tried two different online support groups and not found um, a good connection with them. When you are trying to kick a bad habit, maybe it’s not so helpful to be around a lot of other people who also have that same bad habit…?
Anyway, thanks a million, Dave, and ladies, I am grateful that you are there.
Kari // June 25, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Oh, that should have gone to open forum, my bad.
Newbie // June 25, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Kari, are you there?
Kari // June 26, 2009 at 12:01 am
Hey, Newbie, I just came back for another quick peek, what’s up?
Kari // June 26, 2009 at 12:06 am
Hey, Newbie, I’m here, what’s up?
Ina // June 27, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Nice family you have David. Your father is good looking and your mother is younger than you I think? Did your brother in law do that needlework himself on his shirt?
Marinade Dave // June 27, 2009 at 4:50 pm
My mother looks younger than me? She’d love you for it, but she’d never believe you. No, my brother is not a seamstress or needlepointer. I’ll make sure to pass that on to my mother, by the way.
LosAngeles // June 28, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Your family looks nice. So that’s where the picture came from, that restaurant.
I’ve always loved that tiki picture on your blog. It’s perfect! When I first looked at that picture, I thought that you used to have a beautiful shock of blonde hair, but then I realized that it was just the straw. Good stuff.
Marinade Dave // June 28, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Thank you, LosAngeles. I lost my hair in my 20s, most of it anyway, and my father still has more than me. Today, that straw has lost its color. It’s more of a grayish yellow, but more dull than anything else. Beautiful blond hair… that’s a funny one. 40 years ago, maybe.
