Inaugural poop and other morsels

From George Washington to just before high noon on Tuesday, the transition from one president to the next has always been smooth because it is the will of the American people. No guns, no troops, no power struggle has ever played into our minds. It is a proud moment and a wonderful day to be an American. Even for those who didn’t vote for him, everyone in America must say that, when Barack Obama takes the oath of office, he becomes the leader of all of us and we must do whatever we can to protect and honor him. Personal feelings and prejudices aside, we must embrace the new president and rejoice in the knowledge that our country has come a long way since the days of Martin Luther King, Jr. Let the world know that this is a brand new time in America.

In light of this unique day in American history, I bring you a few things from inaugurations past…

George Washington had to borrow money to travel to his own inauguration. Who he borrowed it from, I do not know, but since he was known to not tell a lie, I’ll bet he paid it back.

william_henry_harrison_daguerreotype

Something I am keenly aware of after my Christmas spent in the hospital with severe pneumonia is the story of the shortest presidency. William Henry Harrison gave the longest inaugural address and served the shortest term. After being sworn in on March 4, 1841, he died 30 days, 12 hours and 32 minutes later after catching a cold and succumbing to pneumonia of the lower lobe of the right lung, pleurisy, jaundice and blood poisoning due to infection.

When James Buchanan succeeded Franklin Pierce in 1857, the inaugural swearing in ceremony had to be delayed for 20 minute because officials forgot to pick Pierce up at his hotel and had to go get him.

The temperature for Ulysses S. Grant’s second inauguration was 16 degrees F. A temporary wooden structure was built for the inaugural ball, but it turned into an ice cold refrigerator. The food froze and strings broke on the musicians’ violins. That’s not all. Canaries brought in for peaceful and comforting sounds froze to death in their cages.

An obscure 24 year old reporter covered Dwight D. Eisenhower’s inaugural parade for the Washington Times-Herald newspaper. Known as the “Inquiring Camera Girl,” her name was Jacqueline Bouvier and soon after, she became Mrs. John F. Kennedy.

lyndon_b_johnson_taking_the_oath_of_office_november_1963

Lyndon Johnson was the only president to take the oath of office from a woman, Federal District Court Judge Sarah Hughes, after the assasination of JFK. He took the oath aboard Air Force One on November 22, 1963.

Back to birds. For Richard Nixon’s second inaugural parade, a chemical bird repellent was applied to tree branches along the route. Called Roost No More, it was designed to keep pigeons from perching and dropping poop bombs by making their feet itch. Instead, the birds ate the chemical and dropped dead. Pennsylvania Avenue became littered with dying and dead pigeons. Nixon resigned the presidency the following year from his own presidential poisoning.

dead-pigeon

One more interesting piece of trivia. For those who still believe in the idiotic notion that Barack Obama is a Muslim and will take the oath of office on a Quran, please note that two of our presidents, Franklin Pierce and Herbert Hoover would not swear the oath of office because of religious reasons. Instead, they affirmed the oath.

    First??wow!!!

    this is interesting Dave,nice work.

Note: Everytime you post about the Commander.in-chief, please mention the dog.
    There’s something classy about it.

  • Ina // January 18, 2009 at 3:13 pm

    Filipa is right.

Poor birds… Was it an omen? Or was he not so bad afterall?

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Thanks, Filipa. Oh, you mean that little Portuguese yappy dog? Yup. I will mention Barack Obama’s dog each time I write about him. Which will be 4 years from now when he runs again.

    Just kidding.

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 3:48 pm

It might have been an omen. He never recovered from Watergate and the birds were dead. Coincidence?

  • Ina // January 18, 2009 at 4:04 pm

:) Hm. Well you have to think deep, to see the symbolism :)

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Well, it wasn’t a coincidence. He was re-elected in a landslide right in the thick of Watergate. The pigeon incident is not known by most Americans and it has nothing to do with his downfall. He did that to himself.

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 7:25 am

“When James Buchanan succeeded Franklin Pierce in 1857, the inaugural swearing in ceremony had to be delayed for 20 minute because officials forgot to pick Pierce up at his hotel and had to go get him.”
How soon they are forgotten. I wonder how long it will take to forget Bush.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 9:08 am

    Bush? Who’s Bush?

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 9:30 am

    That was quick!

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 9:37 am

Well, no matter what history tells one day, he was still an American president. History, over time, tends to be softer than the is public during the tenure of the presidency.

My concern with Obama is that people have such high hopes for him all over the world. He’s a savior. Suppose he doesn’t quite deliver; he doesn’t live up to the expectations the public has bestowed upon him. Will he be a loser in some eyes?

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 9:40 am

He is facing enormous problems, but everyone knows that. I expect he will do a lot for the country of his grandma, Kenia. He has the power now :)

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 9:46 am

    http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/pihtml/pihome.html

I found a site about inaugurations

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 9:54 am

Everyone knows he is facing enormous problems, including himself, but that doesn’t let him off the hook. It is absolutely a fact that as this nation goes down, so does the person in office at the time.

Sure, he can help a little, but he can’t publicly show favoritism. We have tons of problems here and the public won’t tolerate too much. We didn’t elect him to save Kenya just because his grandmother lives there. He is the American president, not Kenyan.

I’ll look at it in a while. I need to get ready to go out for a while.

  • Newbie // January 19, 2009 at 10:54 am

    Fun tidbits Dave.

Man, if I were Obama I would be wishing McCain had won!

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 11:29 am

Nah, never happen. Anybody who wants it that bad will never cede it. A president’s gotta have one big ego.

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 12:07 pm

He has to be an Alpha male. I saw one the other day, a doctor in the hospital, who was using his mobile phone (is that allowed in a hospital?) walking in the middle of a corridor, with plenty of audience, and shouting about a ‘very important meeting’ he was going to attend. Everyone had to hear. It made me laugh out loud. I called him an A-type personality to Toussaint and he said that it was an Alpha-male.
Without Alpha-male we wouldn’t be anywhere I suppose.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I think those cell phone people are insecure. It’s their way of shouting, “Do you know who I am? Do you know how important I am?” Plus, plenty of doctors have a God complex. They think that’s who they are. I know, my ex used to say that to me about her father, a prominent cardiologist. He never seemed that way to me, but she grew up with him.

Obama seems like a very nice guy, but I sense some of the same trait in him. He’s never denied the “savior” moniker.

  • Ina // January 19, 2009 at 12:21 pm

Must be funny being married to a God :)

  • Question Man // January 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm

All this is interesting, but didn’t you add another girl on your banner? Is she neked too?

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 6:28 pm

What girl? Huh? Nekkid? Me with naked women?

  • Newbie // January 19, 2009 at 6:58 pm

Alpha male Obama? Interesting. I would just say he is a politician which means he is addicted to power………I really don’t care what he is as long as he has good advisors……and keeps that damn Carl Rowe out of Washington (wishful thinking).

  • Newbie // January 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Keep adding them Dave, you still have some room to the left of the banner. Now, when these women find out you’re using their pics????

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 7:06 pm

Rove is finished with politics. He can rot over at Fox now.

I know all of those women. Well, not personally, but I did see their names. Bambi, Cherry, Starleen and Heather. I think they’re all from Portugal.

  • Newbie // January 19, 2009 at 7:12 pm

Well, I do hope none of them is the dog you all were talking about earlier…

  • Newbie // January 19, 2009 at 7:17 pm

Yes, Rove, but I think he will be back or behind the scenes……now you talk about a dog…

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 7:44 pm

No, I don’t hang around barking women. I like the ones that purr.

  • Ina // January 20, 2009 at 2:59 am

O, this is tempting but I wont say it. I just won’t. Your spamfilter would bite me anyway. :)

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 8:11 am

If it did, I would let it out.

  • Filipa // January 20, 2009 at 5:05 pm

    you’re lying!
My country is very little, and i’ve never seen those woman around!

We’re primitive, alright, but we do wear clothes.

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 5:11 pm

I’m American. I would not tell a lie. Your country may be small, but remember, Filipa, good things come in small packages. I would say a country that produced you knows how to deliver beauties to the world.

Primitive? Sez who? Clothes? Who cares?

  • Filipa // January 20, 2009 at 5:16 pm

    lol

  • Filipa // January 20, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Congrat’s on the new Comander in chief!!
(I’m a bit worried about Mrs Clinton in her new job, though)

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Thank you. We enter a new day in America.

Hillary will be confirmed. It’s not unusual for representatives and senators, especially from the opposition, to question issues. Democrats do it to Republicans. Republicans do it to Democrats. In her case, it’s a viable concern, whether Bill’s charity organization will have conflicts with her job as secretary of state. Where do all of the donations come from? If any are received from foreign powers not friendly (or too friendly, for that matter, for political gain) to the United States. Is the organization transparent enough to see where funds come from? Mainly, it’s an issue about whether his organization will have any affect or influence over her decisions in her capacity as secretary of state. She will be confirmed in a day or two.

  • Coreysmom // January 20, 2009 at 5:58 pm

    Here’s the Inaugural Address
    http://www.myfoxorlando.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=8282719&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1

Obama is way too liberal for my taste, yet, I’m optimistic that he will be a good president. Of course, being from Illinois, I’m a tad biased…
We cranked out a good president before, ya know…
Hope Obama keeps this speech writer. At least he’s not a yawner when he speaks…

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 6:30 pm

I thought he might be a little too liberal, too, but from what I have seen thus far, he’s not so far to the left. He’s picked moderates and conservatives for his cabinet. Of course, he has chosen mostly Democrats, but what would one expect?

I’m happy he is now president. I don’t think McCain, unfortunately for the Republicans, ever stood a chance.

  • Coreysmom // January 20, 2009 at 6:47 pm

I was just reading a little bit about Alan Keyes. He ran for POTUS in ‘96, 2000, and ‘08.
    He’s republican and conservative.
I wonder why he didn’t get far? He could have been our 1st black president…
    Must be because he’s republican? I dunno…

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 7:09 pm

I was just doing research on hepatosplenomegaly. That was rather boring.

I don’t know if it was because he was black and Republican or not. Most blacks are registered Democrats. Would many of them vote Republican just because he’s black? I don’t know. Would white Republicans have voted for a black back then? I don’t know. If he ran in 2008, he wasn’t even a blip on the radar screen and it was going to be Bush on the Republican side in 2000. My guess is that some people, regardless of credentials and party affiliation, just can’t seem to get elected. Look at Hubert Humphrey way back when. Golly, he must have run, like 5 times. I think his most famous speech ever was, “I concede.”

  • Coreysmom // January 20, 2009 at 8:46 pm

    Good one, Dave!
Well, a heads up here- I got the info from Wikipedia, A fine source for inaccurate info.
It says he’s Catholic. So, where were the blacks, the Republicans, and the Catholics?
Goodness, we could have had a black president in ‘96! This guy looks like he has some good political creds, too.

So, That ugly-looking long word might be your problem? It sure dosn’t look like a cure!

  • Marinade Dave // January 20, 2009 at 9:31 pm

Hepatosplenomegaly just means an enlarged liver and spleen. The cause of it is unknown for now. Next week, I will see my doctor and find out where we go from there.

You know, 1996 was 12 years ago. In politics, that’s a long time. This time around, consider the fact that most of the nation had had enough of Bush and the Republicans. The mid-term election 2 years ago proved that voters were disgruntled by the whole conservative, you’re either with us or against us, agenda. Dick Cheney has never been a friendly guy. The Republicans should have sensed that then and worked on a promising candidate. Instead, they supported a guy with old and stale ideas. McCain was no longer sharp like in the past. His only mantra was that he is (or used to be) a maverick. From the start, it was Obama’s election to lose. He was young, brash, smart and he came to the country with a fresh attitude. 12 years ago, he probably wouldn’t have gotten elected. Actually, no, he couldn’t have beaten Bill Clinton, who was riding on extreme popularity. That might have been the primary reason why Keyes couldn’t have won. Bill Clinton was determined to win a second term and the public was willing to give it to him. Nobody could have beaten him. In 2000, even a much younger and popular McCain couldn’t do it against Bush. That was the problem with Keyes. The timing was never right.

    Congrats everyone!
    CHANGE HAS COME TO AMERICA!!!

(and not a minute too late!!!)

  • Filipa // January 21, 2009 at 3:09 am

    Dear Dave,
What I meant was,I believe there where once issues regarding Clinton’s work in Arkansas (some guy killed himself, afterwards ,bla, bla, bla)
    Now, more issues regarding “charities”…

I just hope there are not many interns in her new headquarters…since there is a propensity to stumble on certain things…

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 5:11 am

    Like the odd cigar case?
I liked Hillary for being so wise to forgive her husband, not every woman would have been so generous I think. :) They made a perfect couple, but the Obama’s are even more glamorous. The first lady is a very beautiful one, not that it is important in politics perhaps!

Thank you Filipa for the link with the speech.
There is just one thing in it I don’t understand:

“To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West — know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.”

I think the people of those countries will jugde their leaders also on what they distroy, in a negative way. But perhaps I read it wrong?

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 5:13 am

What happened to the hens in your henhouse David? Did they escape from the cook? :)

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 5:14 am

And another comment went to the spamfilter. I really wonder why, was it the word cigarcase?!

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 7:56 am

That would be Vincent Foster, who came from Arkansas to Washington with the Clintons. His death was ruled a suicide, but many questions about that persist to this day. If you are interested in reading more, click here. I don’t think that has any bearing now on her confirmation hearing. If it does, it’s just a whisper.

Interns? Very funny. I think she’s had her fill of interns. I know that Bill has.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 8:13 am

Here in America, we hear rumors that make the rounds that other parts of the world never learn about. An old rumor is that Bill & Hillary made a pact years ago that he would one day be president and she would soon follow. They would forgive each other’s sins for whatever they had to do to make it happen. Whether it’s true or not, no one knows for sure. Another rumor was that Bill wasn’t the only one who was a philanderer. Hillary supposedly had an affair with Vincent Foster, who died 6 months after the Clintons took over the White House. I mentioned him to Filipa.

What Obama was referring to in his speech was that for so long foreign countries have always blamed the United States, no matter what the problem. A leader steals from his country, kills innocent people and robs from the land and all he ever does is blame the West. I can name countless Muslim countries today where the criminal heads of state declare, “Death to America!” Obama just said to them, “Screw you!”

I think the chicks flew the hen house when they found out I have other health issues. I’ll find more.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 8:14 am

    Bird flue?

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 8:16 am

You just added I’ll find more. The real rooster spirit :)

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 8:16 am

    Flu, you mean? Very funny.

I wish it was as simple as that.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 8:16 am

    Sorry.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 8:17 am

Yes, I can be a real cocky guy.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 8:17 am

    Have you had coffee yet?

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 8:28 am

Well 1 bird stayed on the nest. I am going to watch an extra news bulletin now, our Wilders-story you won’t know about. Perhaps till later?

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 8:50 am

I just poured a cup. I had to post another article.

I’ll most likely be around today, yes.

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 10:05 am

Now, Dave, are you sure your interpretation of that part of the speech that ina pointed out is correct?
It is. But this is another person’s interpretation of that part of the speech. make sure, if you read it, not to take a sip of hot coffee. You may just have it spraying all over your comp!

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 10:27 am

WOW! I read it and all of the comments. I left one, too, but I changed my name a little bit. I don’t want any rocket attacks in my back yard. Here is what I wrote in response:

“Who else has terrorized and slaughtered unarmed and innocent people in recent days except Israel?”

Duh. That’s a rather one sided statement and you are certainly allowed your opinion. After all, this is your forum, but get real. Has Hamas not fired rockets into Israel, killing innocent school children? I’m not asking who fired first and that shouldn’t matter. My question is all about who fires last and that could be either side, except that Hamas will never stop until every Jew on earth is destroyed and you know it. It is a radical Muslim decree and there are no innocent Jews.

What religion but yours would sanction what occurred on September 11, 2001? Go ahead and admit it. Secretly, inside, you chuckled on that day, didn’t you?

By the way, you can interpret what Barack Obama said any way you like, but obviously, you do not know America and its leadership all that well.

    Thanks for the link.

  • DramaQueen // January 21, 2009 at 10:46 am

The following is a little segment of the inaugural poem recited by Elizabeth Alexander. The entire poem really moved me but this little peice brought to me…hope and accountability for my own good tomorrow.

“In today’s sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.”

God bless our new President and his leadership.
    God bless all of us.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 11:38 am

    Marina de Dave :)

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 11:52 am

It was a touching poem from what I heard. I was rather tied up at the time with the doctor and I missed the actual inauguration completely. I did see it later, on the evening news and I listened to it on NPR on my way to and from the doctor.

Yes, Ina, Marina de Dave. I don’t trust those who want to see Israel blown to smithereens. I’m not afraid of them, but I’m not going to give them a target to shoot at, either. Some of them are true nutcases.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 11:55 am

Gee, I see some of my content was censored like Coreysmom. How exciting.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 12:29 pm

A spamfilter :) Finaly you get whast you deserve. What did you say that was so disrubting??

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 12:30 pm

I think I meant disturbing. And what.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 12:36 pm

It wasn’t censored by a spam filter. The author of the blog did it. I thought he would, so that’s why I copied and pasted the entire content of what I wrote a few comments above this one. What he took out was, “What religion but yours would sanction what occurred on September 11, 2001? Go ahead and admit it. Secretly, inside, you chuckled on that day, didn’t you?”

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 12:41 pm

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Ooh, Dave! Great comment! Wow! Of course it was said so well…you know how to make your points clearly. And with a touch of humor at that.

And the guy is edumacated, too!

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 12:46 pm

    boohoo…

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Oh, those silly radical Muslims can’t take a joke from a run of the mill, everyday infidel.

Hummus, Hamas, the awful falafel. I’ll have to find a post I put up about 2 years ago. I’ll be back with it.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 12:55 pm

I had to look up how to spell necessary.

For me there is no denying that Israel should exist, as there should be a country for Jews. History has made that more than necessary. In 1976 I was in Amsterdam and I knew some Arab people, some of them from the Riff area in Morocco, but they were very specific they were Arabs, not Riff people. We talked about Hitler. They had never heard of Hitler, but when I told them what he had done to the Jews, they applauded and I got a bit sick. “Cool!” they said. And I had been rather explicit. So I said: “But Hitler wouldnot have stopped with Jews, he would have killed Arabs too in the end. Your family would have ended up in the gaschambers.”
I did not think I was very convincing, I seldom are. But they shut up and started to agree with me that Hitler must have been a nasty bastard for wanting to kill their folks. Needless to say they did not stay my friends for long.

I think the people of Gaza deserve beter than the criminals Hamas are.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 12:58 pm

It was actually in July of 2006, right after the London subay bombing and during the height of Iraqi suicide bombers. It’s funny, in a sick sort of way, and not politically correct at all.

  • Marinade Dave // January 21, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Don’t hold your breath. It took some time before elements of what I wrote disappeared.

  • Ina // January 21, 2009 at 1:20 pm

But I cannot thnk of anything disturbing. Whose site is it anyway? Do you know?

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 1:21 pm

That was very funny! I had to magnify my screen and, sure enough, the WMD caught my eye!

Ina, what a story. How true that Hitler wouldn’t have stopped with the Jews. He had a bloodlust. Even if he could have had his Aryan nation of blonde haired, blue-eyed people, he would have found a reason to eliminate them.

It broke my heart to see the Jews uprooted from their homes in Gaza for the Palestinians. Netanyahu had said years ago that it would not bring peace but bombs.
Nevertheless, what is done is done. The Palestinians need to show the world that they can be a State. Israel has given them all the supplies they need to do so. But their supply trucks get bombed by Hamas.
Just like Hitler, they have a bloodlust. No less than the elimination of the Jews will do.
After they are all gone, then who? All those who are not of Hamas ideals.

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 1:33 pm

    Very good, Ina!
I’m going over there to see what you wrote!

  • Coreysmom // January 21, 2009 at 1:40 pm

So far, your comment is still intact!

I saw that Simon Barrett is the editor to contact if you want to be hired as a writer. He and his wife, Jan,host the radio show BNN has.

Hm I’ll pass I think lol. I have link to Achmed, to add to the fun :)

  • Filipa // January 23, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Ina, I think Hillary was very “understandful” to her husband because she had her own political ambitions.
The way she reacted to “the cigargate” gave straight access to the Senate.
Those two use people for the purpuse of their own agenda. The way they behaved with Gore showed it too clearly.

Dave, i want to know what´s going on with former president Carter and the Clinton’s! why they didnt even speack at the inauguratio??!!

  • Marinade Dave // January 23, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Yeah, they treated Al Gore like merda.

I don’t know what’s going on between Carter and the Clintons. I will look into it though, and let you know, Filipa. I’m good with investigations.

  • Marinade Dave // January 23, 2009 at 8:48 pm

OK, here’s what I found so far:

Relations between the Carters and the Clintons have reportedly been frosty for years, dating back to 1980, when Carter’s landslide defeat to Ronald Reagan may have cost Clinton the Arkansas governor’s mansion. At least that’s what Clinton reportedly believed.

In the 90s Clinton was said to resent some of Carter’s freelance diplomacy. Carter, for his part, spared no criticism of Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Recently, during a photo opportunity at the Oval Office, following a lunch with Barack Obama and the ex-Presidents, Clinton and Carter stood next to one another, but miles apart. Obama stood between the two Presidents Bush.

On inauguration day, as the ex-Presidents gathered in the crypt of the Capitol preparing to head out to the platform, a chilly day got a bit chillier as the Carters and the Clintons were forced to occupy the same cramped space.

Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter appeared to greet former Republican President George H.W. Bush and his wife warmly, kissing Barbara Bush on the cheek. But as Carter passed fellow Democrats Bill and Hillary Clinton, the two men did not appear to acknowledge each others presence at all.

President Carter disputes there was any snub and says any suggestion there was is “erroneous.” Through a spokesperson at the Carter Center in Atlanta, the former President told ABC News that he had earlier spent a half hour talking to the Clintons and therefore wanted to use the opportunity to say hello to the Bushes while he could. According to the spokesperson, cameras only caught the later encounter.

So, it’s something or it’s not. Jimmy Carter has shown plenty of disdain for Bush while he was in office and ex-presidents don’t talk about a sitting president as a rule. Maybe, old age and crankiness is setting in.

  • Filipa // January 24, 2009 at 10:53 am

    I see…Thanks Dave! excellent report!

  • Marinade Dave // January 24, 2009 at 11:07 am

Thank you, Filipa. Always glad to help any way I can.

  • Filipa // January 24, 2009 at 11:35 am

    Now, back to Mrs Clinton…
WE KNOW they are vindictive (is this the right word?)
She resentes Obama, for winning the TROPHY job. I wonder what’s her agenda now???
I recomend the comander in chief to keep his eyes open at all times!!!

She’s probably aiming to steal the spotlight, with a H. Kissinger like M.O..
I just can’t be convinced that will be enough for her…
    Gimme your thoughts Dave.

  • Ina // January 24, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Does she really? Resent him I mean?

  • Filipa // January 24, 2009 at 12:09 pm

    I bet she does Ina!
    The way they treated Gore….
for example, Her fund raising campain for Senate , sucked all the democratic resources leaving little for Gore presidency campaign …..

The Monicagate, how addicted to power were they, to strugle so much, amongst all sort of humiliations, and NOT letting go of it???

I could go on and on ,on those two…
The low stategy to bring down Obama’s nomination….

  • Marinade Dave // January 24, 2009 at 12:09 pm

She wanted the grand prize, alright, but she didn’t win it. You are right. She is vindictive and I always sense something about her that smells like pay back. But in this case, she will never be president because, unless Obama really screws up, he will win re-election and she will be a crusty old has been. I doubt that she will be secretary of state for the next 8 years, but she will do everything in her power to maintain as much power as she can and remain in the spotlight. I never could have voted for her as president. She lies. Henry Kissinger had it hands down over her. That man had class in a cunning sort of way. She is a bitch.

  • Ina // January 24, 2009 at 12:13 pm

O, I already forgot the campaign, yes they went at eachothers throats like maniacs, I didnot quite understand that. They are suppose to be on one side now. Hard to believe indeed.

Well they both did some mud throwing, I think?

  • Filipa // January 24, 2009 at 12:19 pm

    DAVE!
we’re finnaly TUNED at one subject!!!!!!!!
God bless Mrs Clinton for that!

  • Marinade Dave // January 24, 2009 at 12:25 pm

HAH! You made me laugh, Filipa. Something we finally agree on.

That campaign was typical American style mud slinging at its finest. It’s what good old fashioned United States politics is all about. I’m glad it’s finally over.

  • Ina // January 24, 2009 at 10:04 pm

Goodmorning. You don’t want to know why I am up and about at this hour. I don’t understand how you can say mrs.Clinton is a bitch, I always valued your opinion but this is very strange. She was the one who wanted to provide the US with a healthinsurance for everyone, I do remember that very well. You of all people should know how important it is. If she had it her way on this, you would have a lot less to worry about.

  • Ina // January 25, 2009 at 4:15 am

Boy was I sick :) O well. I guess I had to spit it out :) Going back to bed. (flu?)

  • Marinade Dave // January 25, 2009 at 7:34 am

Sorry to hear you are sick, Ina.

I think if you had to listen to Hillary every day like we did and will again, you’d understand a little more. She can come across with a cold, steely demeanor and she acts holier than thou at times. This past campaign is probably what did it. She was downright nasty to Obama. You didn’t see it every day, day in, day out, like we did. She presented herself as the self proclaimed leader of the Democratic party and she acted self-righteous. When she realized she was losing the primaries and caucuses, she pitied herself. She acted like we owed her the presidency, and for what? She was a first lady for crying out loud and she lied about trips she made overseas.

Her healthcare plan under her husband’s first term was flawed. Sure, she had a plan this time and it was much better, but so did Obama. What do you mean, me of all people? Didn’t I just say Obama has a plan? We have choices in this country and I wasn’t about ready to vote for her just because of a healthcare plan. Oh, even John McCain had a plan, but I didn’t like him, either.

I hope everything came out and you are feeling better. Was it a bad herring?

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 8:09 am

Oh Lord Dave! We’re still TUNED!!!!!!!

See, I didn’t listen to Hillary day in day out either, but from what i’ve seen, I could read between the lines….

I pay attention to people!and i think i’m a good observer, though my impressions aren’t always right, I do believe in my instinct!!!

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 8:12 am

    INA
    Hope you’re feeling better.
I’m not very good either. I’ve got a liver problem.
But I can’t afford to be sick or complaint ’cause my daughter needs me!!
I even have to sleep fast, for christ sake!!!!

  • Marinade Dave // January 25, 2009 at 8:19 am

Maybe, there’s hope for us after all, Filipa.

There were just a few things that made me feel a little uncomfortable about her and I didn’t want to listen to her whiny voice for the next 4 years. I might anyway now.

She came across to me like she earned the job. She didn’t. If someone disagreed with her, she raised her voice. Look, I’m not against a woman sitting in the White House, but even as unqualified as she was, Sarah Palin came across as a nice person, not that I would have voted for McCain because of it. On the other hand, and in defense of Hillary, I think Obama picked wisely. I think she’ll be a fine secretary of state.

It’s no secret that Bill and Hillary have a shared agenda, or did, and that was for both of them to be president. We had 8 very good years under Clinton. 8 years was enough.

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 8:32 am

If the vacancy for the top job was open(i.e. God)
    Those two WOULD APPLY!!!!!!

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 9:14 am

I think people were tired of “Dubia”

Mostly the hoolywood lobby. They started sooner, preparing “THE CHANGE” in peoples minds…
With TVseries like 24 (with a afro-am president) or that one with Geena Davies (with a woman as Commander in Chief) dont like that one!!!
OBAMA has great personality,I think he’s the right guy, but “for change to come” took a team effort!!!!!

  • Marinade Dave // January 25, 2009 at 1:40 pm

Bill and Dubya can never be president again. An amendment to the Constitution prevents a president from running for more than 2 terms. However, a president can hold that office longer if the sitting president dies in office. The vice president takes over for whatever is left of that term and can run for 2 terms afterward.

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 2:26 pm

i know that, whoever was running dor democt’s had it already, i meant!!

but Obama is by far better human being then Hillary (I dont care even for what happens inside the house. Public profile is enough to make my opinion)

  • Marinade Dave // January 25, 2009 at 2:28 pm

I agree and I hope time proves us both right.

Tomorrow, I am posting another political piece, one that condemns Obama in a satirical way. No, I’m not down on him at all, it’s a different approach to our new president.

  • Filipa // January 25, 2009 at 2:36 pm

If you mock on Obama I file for divorce!

  • Marinade Dave // January 25, 2009 at 2:55 pm

    No! No! I won’t!!! I love Obama!!!

  • Ina // January 26, 2009 at 7:41 am

Hi FILIPA! I hadnot read this carefully, so a late reaction. (I shouldnot be here anyway!)
Sorry to hear about your liver problem!
I cannot afford to not work either really, need money so I am trying to write, but it is not easy :( And this is just a short time thing I am having, I hope it is a bacteria. For you the problem is much bigger of course.
Work, being sick and doing householdstuff is not easy with kids! I can imagine it takes a lot of organizing.
I still like Hillary btw, I cannot see the problem, but I never do lol.
Hope you get help from friends and so!

  • Ina // July 25, 2009 at 5:47 pm

Hi David, it has been a while huh. :)
You know, what Obama said, about the health insurance, the rich paying for the poor, now is that socialism or is that not socialism you think?

  • Marinade Dave // July 25, 2009 at 5:53 pm

Hi, Ina. Yes, it has been a while. Welcome back.

It is socialism, it is socialism, it is socialism. Knowing my luck, I will be dead a day before socialized health insurance takes effect. His honeymoon with the American people is certainly over and occasionally, his lack of experience as a seasoned politician shows, but I think he’s OK. Definitely a bit too liberal for my blood, but I don’t mind him at all. Not yet.

  • Ina // July 25, 2009 at 5:54 pm

No, he just put his foot in it with that arrest and the cops in Massachusets how do you spell it, I think?

  • Marinade Dave // July 25, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Close enough. Massachusetts. Yup, he sure did. He played the race card. That’s a no no for a president. He basically trashed the cop and all the cops, all ethnicities, came to the cop’s support. Obama was really stupid on that one.

  • Ina // July 25, 2009 at 6:06 pm

I think he shouldn’t have interfered, but who am I to judge that. I think he will get his foot back somehow :) But he meant wel. I am convinced. I hope he will stay president for a long time.
This blog is immensely slow, like sirup on an unshaven mens cheek.

  • Ina // July 25, 2009 at 6:10 pm

I meant the face. Isn’t this cosy :)

  • Marinade Dave // July 25, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Hopefully, Obama will grow. It’s tough being president.

  • Ina // July 26, 2009 at 11:12 am

I hope his ears won’t grow with him though?

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 11:59 am

Hey I said: I hope his ears won’t grow with them! I sure wish yours were a big bigger. But I shout twice to be sure then.
Do you think ms Palin has a change of becoming president in 2012? She will have to compete with Obama then? She is republican, I think. (Yes I don’t follow American politics the way a person should) And is it ms or mrs?

  • Marinade Dave // July 27, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Palin doesn’t stand a chance of becoming president. For one thing, Americans hate quitters and she quit before she was even in the middle of her first term. She is a Republican, yes, but there are other up and coming politicians in the party that would fare much better than her.

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Quiters. No, you can’t have that. :) She needed more time for her family she said. Thad is legit?
Could you explain what the specific diference is between democrats and republicans? I think democrats are a bit more leftsided but they still are no socia.li.st by far.

  • Marinade Dave // July 27, 2009 at 12:10 pm

It’s too tough to describe the differences because they all vary. There are Democrats who are more conservative than liberal Republicans. There are way too many factors and it would be impossible to draw a line and put Democrats on one side and Republicans on the other. the best thing to do would be to Google the two, but even then, you’re only going to get opinions with histories of the two parties.

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Then how do you know what party you need to vote on?

  • Marinade Dave // July 27, 2009 at 12:17 pm

In the primary election, we must vote along the party line, whichever party we belong to. If registered an Independent, they can’t vote for a Democrat or Republican. In the general election, anyone can vote for anyone. By the time the general election comes around, people have a pretty good idea which candidate would make a better elected official. The American public decided John McCain was too old and out of touch with the country, so some Republicans voted for Obama.

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 12:18 pm

    Must go cook. See you!

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 12:21 pm

Oh sorry missed your last comment. I will reread, is interesting. Thanks.
Too old? “The devil is old!” my grandmother said!
And took another cup of coffee. She was old, what do you expect, a headroll? :)

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 2:18 pm

And back :) So you have to be registrated somehow. Why is that? Why don’t they just sent a notice that you can vote? There must be a reason? Or am I a pain in the butt?

  • Marinade Dave // July 27, 2009 at 2:33 pm

If you own a car, you must register it in order to drive it legally on the street. If you want to vote, you must register so the state knows you are who you say you are. And you can only vote one time. One person, one vote. It’s very simple. Clearly, we are not the only nation on earth that does it this way.

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 2:39 pm

I have no clue :) Here we are all registerd and if you are 18 + you get a card to go and vote when there is an election. It looks like a lot of double work to register every time there is a vote, as four years later the whole circus starts all over again. And local elections etc. Wouldn’t more people vote if they didn’t have to do something like that, registering, themselves every time? Just a question :) No critisism.

  • Ina // July 27, 2009 at 2:58 pm

Well I better leave you to answer new posting comments.
Toussaint says hi too ! :)

  • Harris // August 20, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Obama has failed, unfortunately. I would never have voted for him if I had known that his intentions are to take over as much of the private sector as possible (ie car industry, healthcare, energy, etc.)

What I know for sure is that he’s a liar.

  • Marinade Dave // August 20, 2009 at 5:17 pm

I’ve never met an honest politician, Harris. I’m not defending Obama, but I can’t think of one I could fully trust.
