Scoping out Casey’s haunts

January 15, 2009 · 116 Comments

Today, I took a field trip. First, I headed down I-4, along the downtown Orlando corridor and got off on John Young Parkway. That’s the exit for the Orange County Jail, the 3rd largest jail system in the state of Florida with more than 1,800 employees, including over 1,000 certified correctional officers. It is affectionately known around these here parts as 33rd Street, because that’s the street it’s on. Mention 33rd and everyone knows what you’re talking about. I know it well. Just kidding. Anyway, that’s been Casey Marie Anthony’s home for some time now. There, she is lovingly known as inmate number o8049710, from her booking number. Maybe, a more politically correct thing to say is that she is a guest of the Orange County Corrections Department. She invited herself.

I took the trip to illustrate a more poignant interpretation of life in Orlando and to take you on a personal tour of the Anthony case through my eyes. It should be different from what the media paints. My post will mostly be a series of photographs with commentary where I think it is appropriate. Some of the photos will speak for themselves. After I left the jail, I headed south on John Young, east on Sand Lake Road and north on SR 436 to Lee Vista Blvd. From there, I headed east to Chickasaw Trail and north to Suburban Drive. Just to give you a bearing, if you’ve ever flown into Orlando, 436 takes you directly into OIA, the Orlando International Airport.

When I got to the jail, I went to the visitor’s center and they instructed me where to go from there. I crossed John Young and entered the booking and release parking lot. As I snapped pictures, a very attractive, professionally dressed woman stopped along the sidewalk and said, ” I will be in the way of your picture.”

“No you won’t. I’m in your way. Besides, I took pictures here already.” We walked towards the booking building and chatted. I asked her what she did. She told me she was a criminal defense attorney and she emphatically said – and made it very clear – that she is, in no way, affiliated with the Casey Anthony defense. I told her what I was up to and she chuckled. Not at me, but she thought it was amazing how people are falling all over this case and making it such a big deal and the press has no idea. I kind of agreed, but I said there are an awful lot of people reading my blog and I’m not out to sensationalize it. As a matter of fact, I am trying to take a more civil approach. Besides, my motive has nothing to do with money because I am not making any. I’m not trying to sell the articles I write and I’ve met some very nice and interesting people because of it.

As we approached the building, we stopped and continued our conversation. She reached into her purse and took a business card out of her case. Ms. Dione R. Talkington Fletcher, Attorney at Law, P.A., it said. She was a lovely woman and quite friendly, not stuck up at all, as some lawyers can be. “You know, you’ll have to go through security.”

“I know.”

“Oh, you can’t go in with that camera!”

“No?”

“No. Didn’t you see the signs?” I hadn’t, but I decided I didn’t need to go in there. She was the one who told me it was the third largest jail in Florida after I asked her if she knew where Casey was. She didn’t. I wanted to take a shot of the building and maybe, the cell window, but that facility is all spread out. You’d have to be an insider to know where she is being held. I thanked her and we went our separate ways. Obviously, she was there to see a client. I could have gone in, but I would have had to leave my camera behind.

To illustrate the starkness of jail life, the following two photographs give you an idea of what Casey Anthony sees every day. In the land of Disney and Shamu, her life is no theme park.

The next series of photos are more solemn.

This is at the corner of Suburban Drive and Hopespring Drive. The house on the left is where Peter Gonzalez lives. Zenaida Almdovar resides in the house on the right.

This next photo shows a letter left at the original memorial, under a tree at the corner of Suburban and Hopespring. The original stuffed animals were donated to a charity for Christmas by the Anthonys. The homeowner requested the items be removed from the property for several reasons, including not being able to maintain it, especially as it grew in size. Some small trinkets were left behind.

From here, I walked to the site where poor Caylee was found.

field_trip-010

As I approached the memorial, a handful of people milled around, looking at the things left behind. We glanced at each other, but at no time was a word said. It clearly was a peaceful, eerie feeling. This is sacred ground.

The next two photographs are just to the right of the memorial. You can see how law enforcement really cleared the site.

As I continued moving to my left, more brush began to appear. The final of these three photographs shows just how heavy the brush was before Caylee was found.

Here is one final view from across the street

field_trip-021

On my way back to the car, I spotted a little plastic bag on the ground at the original memorial site. In it was a little toy character of some kind. A tack was sticking in the tree, so I decided to pin that little guy there. Then, I left. It was at that moment I felt I was leaving little Caylee behind.

field_trip-022

When I left the memorial, I went down Hopespring to drive by the Anthony house. Gone were the TV trucks and camera crews. Gone, too, were the posters, one on the front door, another in a window, that begged for help finding Caylee. The house looked forlorn and abandoned.

On my way home, I headed up Goldenrod Road and spotted the Amscot where Casey abandoned the car.

Wow, awesome… thankyou so much for doing this… you take better pictures etc. than the media!

  • detwill39 // January 15, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Dave~thank you for letting me take a trip to Orlano. It was just like being there in the real. Tacking little elmo to the tree was such a nice sentiment on your part. Misty eyed me….

I got a chuckle at your write-up…a sense of humor adds that bit of zest that makes the read more enjoyable.

Just an aside..someone very close to me was with Corrections Canada for 22 years. I am quite familar with what goes on behind prison walls. Casey has it mild now compared to the big house she may go to.

Wow dave that is just awesome you did a wonderful job! RIP CAYLEE

  • Marinade Dave // January 15, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Thank you ALL for the nice comments. I take better pictures than the media? Gee, WOW! That made my day. Actually, you’ve all made my night.

I didn’t know that was Elmo. I guess I’m getting a little old. I looked at it and thought, “This little guy made it through Christmas and he’s still here, still sealed in the plastic bag. He belongs here now as one last reminder of what once was here.

  • weezie10 // January 15, 2009 at 9:39 pm

Dear MD: I just couldn’t wait til tomorrow to view your photos that you so achingly took today. Now who would do all of this but a soulful person who felt the very rath of the situation. I have to say, the first photos of the correctional facility just amazed me. The building looks so new, modern, a rather beautifully architec’s dream. Of course when you moved down to the barbed wire, of course the reality of it all sets in. It’s the way you presented these photos, in the order that you took them, but now I really have a better feel for the emotional impact it has on the locals. It is really quite eerie and scary. I mean just looking at the thick woods makes me want to cry uncontrollably for that poor sweet Caylee. I just can’t contain my anger. This is a monster who did this. Absolute monster. I actually want to search for a better word than that but I am dumb founded to find it.
You must be emotionally drained. It could not but affect the hardest core of the land.
I am sending your web address to a couple of friends of mine who are following this case very closely.
Dave oh Dave this is just too sad. I have to go, but as always you touched a string.
    Weezie

  • Marinade Dave // January 15, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Thank you, weezie10. Like I’ve said all along, I want to tell it from a different point of view and I want everyone to see what the media doesn’t really show you. These are images that, I hope, tell a story aside from what I wrote. Yes, it was an emotional moment when I stood there along those woods. We all felt it.

  • thinkingoutsidethecircle // January 15, 2009 at 9:47 pm

It’s a shame those toys are just sitting there when it would bring smiles to other children to be playing with.

  • Marinade Dave // January 15, 2009 at 9:58 pm

True, thinkingoutsidethecircle, but I think people would just bring more. Eventually, it will die down. I wouldn’t be surprised if a permanent memorial is placed there one day.

When you think about it, she didn’t die there and it will not be her final resting place. I don’t know if the property owner will allow it for an indefinite amount of time. For sure though, that place is haunting.

  • topcat08 // January 15, 2009 at 11:34 pm

    Thanks Dave!

  • Molly // January 16, 2009 at 2:31 am

Thanks for all of those photos Dave, especially the memorial site. The news doesn’t show that spot anymore. I am so glad to see people have continued to visit & place items there in Caylee’s memory even after Cindy hauled all of the other ones away. It is so touching to see & it must be haunting to be there.
The one that stood out to me was the Superman doll, she really needed a superman didn’t she? But now she has so many “super” people fighting for the truth & justice for her.

  • frosty // January 16, 2009 at 3:57 am

Wow! What an awesome article and pictures. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to give us this tour.

I also had a much different idea of the jail in my head. And I was so glad to see how the memorial has grown and to know that people still visit and leave things.

Thanks again for the info, it was one of the best I have read on this site!

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 6:58 am

    You are welcome, topcat08.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 7:05 am

I’m glad I can show it in a different light, Molly. I just want to clarify something, though. Cindy didn’t remove anything. At the original memorial site, at the corner of Suburban and Hopespring, the homeowner didn’t want the stuffed animals and toys staying on his property. I can understand that. It wasn’t where she was found anyway. He contacted the Anthonys and asked them if they wanted the items. They said, no, let’s donate them to a charity so other children can have a better Christmas. Remember, at the time, the FBI and forensics were working where the memorial site is now.

    I like your Superman analogy.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 7:07 am

Thank you, frosty. Your comment explains why I made that trip to take photos and write about the experience. I think people will be stopping by that place for a long time. That little girl touched so many hearts.

  • thinkingoutsidethecircle // January 16, 2009 at 8:24 am

Dave, is it permissible to share your photos-even on our own blogs- if you are given credit for having taken the photos and a link is provided back to your blog?

I think they are great photos and will more than likely be more appropriate than what the news stations are coming up with in the future.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 8:30 am

Yes, feel free to use them. You can lift them from here or I can e-mail you the files, whichever is best for you. Gee, I’m honored. Thank you for asking.

  • Rhonda // January 16, 2009 at 9:05 am

Great tour and pictures. I know how real this tragedy is….just makes it so much more looking at the pics.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 9:09 am

Thank you, Rhonda. I know that the news doesn’t really give you a feel for the area, so I figured I could add a personal touch and bring the tragedy home.

  • DramaQueen // January 16, 2009 at 11:01 am

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time and emotional energy to do this for us. I live in Connecticut and my only opportunity to see the sites that are part of Caylee’s story will be through the eyes of folks like you.
Do you happen to know what the meaning is behind all of the little numbered crosses at the site of Caylee’s remains? Is is the number of days she was missing? or…number of missing children? I have been curious about that.
The way that you discribed finding the little Gumby or Waldo was very touching. It made me happy that you were the one to find it because you took care of it and gave it a nice place to watch over and honor Caylee.
Bless you and yours for the journey and the blog that followed.
It meant a lot to me.
    Dq
Coreysmom provided me your link at CayleesDaily
    She knows her stuff!

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 11:08 am

Thank you, DramaQueen, from the bottom of my heart. I do not know the meaning of the crosses (YET!) but I will do my best to find out. It can’t be the number of days Caylee was missing because the numbers go up too high. I don’t think it has to do with missing children because that number would reach into the millions if you put no start or finish date on it.

For sure, yesterday was an experience I will never forget. Please give Coreysmom a Cyberhug for me.

  • deb // January 16, 2009 at 11:19 am

Those pictures are just beautiful. I would love to see the memorial in person. Thanks for sharing your field trip with us. You are a great photographer MD.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 11:33 am

Thank you, deb. I don’t consider myself a great photographer, but I sure do appreciate your compliment.

I know, a lot of people would love to see the memorial in person. This was my way of doing the best I could to bring you as close as possible.

  • Kim // January 16, 2009 at 11:47 am

Thank you Dave for sharing. My husband and I were in Orlando back at the end of October and we had to drive by all the pertinent places evolving around this case while we were there. It made it all real to us to see it in person. We have been following this case since day 1. While we were there, we drove by the Anthony home, the Amscot, Blanchard Park, Sawgrass Apts. Apt. 210, Casey’s new home, 33rd Street, the Wal-Mart where George had the billboard of Caylee, we even drove down the street to the school and turned around and came back and drove right by where she layed. If only we had known she was there. Rest in Peace beautiful little girl. If I had only known that you were not wanted, I would have brought you back to Ohio with lots of love and would have cherished you forever. Your in the arms of Jesus now. Rest baby. We love you.

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 11:54 am

A cyberhug back at ya, Dave.
I can’t see the the pics of the memorial area so will come back later to look. The pic spots are blank and I don’t know if it’s my comp or not.
I was heartwarmingly touched when I read about you pinning the toy on the tree. It’s as if you did it for Caylee on all of our behalf.
I’m going to share this link, too.
Thanks for blessing us. Hope this brings many blessings back to you, friend.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Golly, Kim, had I known you were in town, I would have given you tips on where we like to go around here. At least, you got to take the Anthony tour. If only we all knew where she was, it would have shortened our hopes that she was still alive. Only Casey knew that. I’m glad you got to see it all and I thank you for commenting. If you ever come back, let me know. There are a lot of nice restaurants around town.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Thanks, Coreysmom. There must be a slowdown of some sort on your end. I know the image files are rather large and it can take a while to load.

I’m glad I pinned that little toy to the tree, too. It was on everyone’s behalf.

Hopefully, we can communicate later. I need to step out for a while.

  • Lucia // January 16, 2009 at 1:02 pm

I want to know about Lake County. In the latest jail house video, Cindy says to Casey, “I’ve been to Lake County. Is there anything there?” and Casey gets very upset and threatens to walk away. WHY would the mention of Lake County make her so defensive???

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Because there is nothing in Lake County. Lake County has nothing to do with it. Casey is a liar and she had nothing to say about Lake County, therefore, she got very defensive to shut her mother up. She said she was in Tampa, too, but cell phone records don’t lie.

By the way, Lucia, that video is not new. It was just released, though.

  • Lucia // January 16, 2009 at 1:53 pm

I know its not new. Its the latest video released. It seems to me that Cindy touched a nerve by mentioning Lake County. Why would Cindy go there? I think there is something more to this.

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Okay, it’s my end. I will try to fix it. Brand new comp with a tower thsat can handle a few upgrades. Could be the security causing this, too.
I should say that your site was on Express’ site, The Caylee Daily, when she linked to one of your articles. I’ve been here ever since.

  • Ina // January 16, 2009 at 2:03 pm

Hi coreysmom, is it norton firewall? My laptop gets crazy too at times :(

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Lucia, my take on it is that she made up a story about Lake County and didn’t build a foundation underneath that story. She got defensive because she was caught in a lie and didn’t have a way to get out of it other than scream at her mother. I haven’t heard anything around here about a Lake County connection.

  • Marinade Dave // January 16, 2009 at 2:12 pm

I’ll have to look again at The Caylee Daily. I know you’ve linked to me.

Anyway, got to run out for a while. I’ll be back. Good luck with your new computer.

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 2:17 pm

    Hi, Ina!
I will go and check the firewall settings.
    Thank you so very much!

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 2:19 pm

We do love your visits there,Dave.
And thanks for wishing me luck!

  • Ina // January 16, 2009 at 2:51 pm

I do hope I said something usefull :)

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 3:16 pm

You always say something useful, Ina!

I disabled my firewall (McAffee) but that didn’t work. I also boosted my comp’s performance. No go.
But, I did discover that putting my mouse over the pic areas works! Doh!
So, I did get to see the pics after all.
And they are very good pics. I agree that they are better than the medias’.
    Thanks again, Ina.

  • detwill39 // January 16, 2009 at 3:47 pm

I don’t think Lake County has any bearing on the case. Casey just didn’t want to be questioned about anything concerning Caylee. She said Lee would come in with a list of questions and interrogate her. She made snide remarks to Cindy for not raising money to bail her out. Casey was playing on George’s sympathy…Lord knows it seems like he can be minipulated. Casey was playing her father against her mother.

George wanted to set up a meeting with Casey one on one. It seems Baez convinced Casey to not follow thru on that.

It was so sad to see the grandparents of Caylee so distraught in the video. As we have learned since that video, alot has changed and not for the better.

That video was all about Casey, a very disturbed individual. Baez probably wishes that he didn’t ask the judge for it.

  • Ina // January 16, 2009 at 3:48 pm

You put your mouse over the picarea? And it worked?? Is that paranormal ? :)

  • detwill39 // January 16, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Dave~~I have a question and almost feel ridiculous asking it but ….

Let’s say Lee, George or Cindy get criminal immunity and confess on the stand that they killed Caylee…can they be charged later on for the crime of murder?

I am not sure of the laws in Florida. You can kill someone in my country and get 10yrs. We don’t have the death penalty even for killing a cop.

  • Coreysmom // January 16, 2009 at 9:39 pm

So very sorry to be so late in responding to you, Ina.

Yes, it must be paranormal. After I put my mouse on the pics, he scampered off and disappeared!

  • Ina // January 17, 2009 at 3:20 am

It is worrying, isn’t it? Hope nothing is wrong.

  • Marinade Dave // January 17, 2009 at 8:40 am

Sorry I didn’t come back on last night. Suppose George and Cindy get immunity and say they killed Caylee just to get Casey off the hook. No, they cannot be charged with anything. But! And that’s a big bad but, that’s not to say the federal government can’t come in and nail them with trumped up charges of some kind. It’s not going to happen, though, since every road leads to Casey.

  • Filipa // January 17, 2009 at 10:04 am

    dear Dave,
    AWESOME!!!

Now,what I want you to do is as follows:
Next Friday night, you’re going on a field trip to Fusion.
Yeah! let’s do some serious research here!!!!

Dave, don’t forget to dress accordingly, digg, ask, investigate. What are they “selling” there?? do people remember seeing her around??how was her demeanor??
how did this drama impacted the “fusion troupe”?
My dear friend, can’t wait to next Sat. to hear it from you, lol.
    Go fet them Dave!!

  • Marinade Dave // January 17, 2009 at 10:22 am

You know, Filipa, I thought about driving downtown when I was on my field trip to take pictures of Fusion. If I went inside (they are only open at night) I would stand out like an acne pimple on a butt cheek. They are all 20somethings. I might go down to ask questions, though. You know. Pretend I’m a real journalist. I’ll check it out.

Oh! I invited you to be my friend on Facebook.

  • bellalu0 // January 17, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Dave, thanks again for the great pictures. The pictures and the maps have helped me picture the scene. The part about the two houses at the end of Hopespring where a Gonazles lives in one and Zenaida lives in the other is really strange.

I appreciate you adding me to your blogroll.

  • Marinade Dave // January 17, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Thank you, bellalu0. I am very glad they helped you picture the scene. It means I was doing my job properly.

Hey! Adding you to my blogroll was a cinch. You’ve been very nice throughout all of this and am I not on your blogroll, too? Aha! What’s that old goose and gander saying?

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 10:38 am

    Hi There!

On the latest video, Miss Anthony talks to parents while in jail, and regarding the media scrutinity, she says “People should get a life!!”

My aswer to Miss Anthony is :
    I hope you GET LIFE!!!!

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 10:47 am

Very good, Filipa! I think she will get just that.

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 5:00 pm

About the Anthony’s still selling t-shirts,

I’ve heard there’s this awsome new ones, and I might just get one to myself.
    It says:
“I WENT TO PEE AND FOUND CAYLEE”

On other there’s 3 Casey mugshots, and you can read:GAME OVER!

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 5:42 pm

What I’ve heard is that the Anthonys are still getting a lot of requests for shirts and bracelets that say ‘Help Find Caylee’ and they are selling what they have left from their house. It’s not going to make them rich, that’s for sure, and I’ve been told some of the money goes to a missing children charity.

I think the other t-shirts, while meant to be comical, are rather cruel, especially ones with pictures of Caylee on them. Any of them not sanctioned by the family are just people out to make a quick buck.

Casey, on the other hand, is fair game.

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 7:44 pm

Dave, that’s what everyone is after….
but coming from the child grandparents…it’s even more shocking!!!

I don’t believe anyone would want a shirt looking for a missing child, that we know has been murdered by her own mother.

The same way, i don’t believe anyone still doubts that she’s guilty.

Even these people that write to her or send her money to jail, are nothing more than souvenir hunters. As soon as she writes back or thanks, You’ll get a “signature ” of a sicko murderer for sale at ebay….

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 7:58 pm

IMO there’s only one way to honour Caylees memory:
CUT THE BS, AND UNCOVER THE TRUTH!!

God works in mysterious ways…we all felt sorry, but isn’t she safer where she’s at???

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 8:17 pm

She’s certainly safer away from her mother, but she had so much to live for. Even her grandparents would be better than Casey.

As far as the t-shirts, I could see people looking at them as collector items. Who knows? One day they might be worth something on ebay. At least George Anthony isn’t selling them to the highest bidder and if he has some left and someone wants one, I see no problem selling it to them. Heck, the price of the shirt includes shipping. Like I said, he’s not asking for much. The leftover money doesn’t go to Casey, either.

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 8:24 pm

they should be forced to pay all profits of their scam to people like Tim Miller or the poor Zenaida, for helping their lives to become unmanageable…at the very least

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 8:27 pm

to honour Caylees memory it’s not compatible with sympathy for the MURDERER.

    Don’t you think Dave?

  • Filipa // January 18, 2009 at 8:30 pm

How normal it is to call an assassin “sweetie”???

After all, Cindy was the one who almost choked her daughter, when found out her mother’s money had been stolen…
Compared to that, is her next “action” a petty thing???

  • Marinade Dave // January 18, 2009 at 8:56 pm

What scam for selling a handful of t-shirts? You make it sound like they are getting rich off this scheme. Believe it or not some people feel sympathy for them. Read some of the testimonials on their myspace page.

Why should George and Cindy Anthony be forced to pay for something their daughter did? Why are so many people accusing them of murder, too? Casey slandered Zenaida. Not her parents. Why are so many seeking vengeance against these people? I’m not out to defend them, but how can so many people with good conscience call themselves Christians and be filled with so much hate?

EquuSearch is an all volunteer organization. They do take donations, but you cannot force anyone to pay them, nor would they take the money that way. Their services are free. They do it because they care. Casey can’t even be forced to pay anything. Tim Miller would scoff at the suggestion. Should the parents of the person who killed his daughter be forced to pay, too?

As a parent, you should know that it’s tough to turn against your own child. Casey did that to Caylee. Would you expect her parents to do the same thing to her in order to satisfy the throngs of vengeance seekers? Why not let this all work out the legal way? In a court of law. We did away with hanging trees a long time ago. Let the Anthonys live their own miserable lives. Let’s go after their daughter. Yes, I think they are strange, stupid and wrong, but just as guilty as Casey?

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 7:25 am

    Dave,
IMO it’s as simple as this:
Thare are rumours they choked her, during a big argument…Well, had they allow the public to see that, WOULD PROVE TO ME they cared for the child…Had they recognized that her demeanour wasn’t apropriate…-THAT WOULD BE IT.I would feel sympathy.!!!..
INSTEAD,they covered up for her. (even Cindy’s brother(standing from within the family) could see this….

The child was helpless,in clear desadvantage regarding the killer….

WHILE TOO LATE, it would be the right thing to do,to stand by the victim

Cindy, in her own words, recognizes that the only thing she got for supporting Casey, was deception and betrail…..

The public is NOT STUPID, for them to state the contrary, NOW THAT IT SUITS THEM!!!

Again, IMO, there must be something the Anthonys FEAR that we will know, if Casey starts singing….there is no other explanation for overprotecting her….
They CARE A LOT about appearences!!!
I wonder what that might be….

Though i hate her, Casey has clearly some traits of an abused woman (low self-worth,living in a fantasy world apart, and a complete dysfunctional relation with family…)

They (parents) know that they own some of the guilt here.
They are saving their own skin, not Caseys.
I guess it is as sad as that…

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 9:03 am

I think everyone is convinced that George and Cindy are in denial. That showed when they supported Casey before Caylee’s body was found. At that time, and you’re a parent, no mother or father wants to burn their child at the stake, no matter how many lies they told in the past. That is what everyone is doing here. They are denying that George and Cindy are still parents and filled with confusion over this mess. Everyone feels that G&C should forget that they raised Casey, but until they die, she will still be their child. How can anyone assume that they should feel like the outside world and burn her? All of a sudden, the entire world has become an authority in psychology and who should live and who should die.

Look, half the people think Lee’s involved, too, and he needs to burn. In my opinion, the public is very, very stupid for not letting the court system do its job. Instead, everyone wants to take the entire family out and kill them. Are we human beings or monsters? Why make ourselves worse than what they are in many eyes? What is wrong with the judicial system? If you are so convinced about the Anthonys, why haven’t charges been filed against them by now? Like I said, I am not defending them, but listen to reason. The public hears rumors – and yes, – you did say that, and they want to destroy the whole family. That’s all I’m saying. It’s not fair to jump to conclusions and sentence George and Cindy for what their daughter allegedly did. Sure, they changed stories, but what besides a court of law has the right to convict them? A posse? Let’s find the nearest tree and string them up. Then, we can burn their bodies.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 10:35 am

Dave, COOL man!! we’re just exchanging ideas here!!!

See the mail Cindy exchanged with brother Rick.
See the “diary of days” she whote before knowing her grandaughter passed away.
    See tha 911 calls

Cindy, now and again, gets sort of a reality check…She knows, what common sense and evidence is telling us….

At first they try to create among the public a “reasonable doubt”.Fueling the “missing child” theory.

THEN,the body appears. The body being found offers them another reality check…BUT, as time goes by, my impression is that their thinking was:”Wait a minute! we can put Zenaida playing a part in this still!!!”
And go back to the “missing child BS

THIS, is what gets on my nerves, dave!!!
    NOT THE PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE…
    …BUT THE PRESUMPTION,THAT WE’RE ALL MORONS…

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 11:21 am

I have read all of the exchanges between Cindy and her brother. I have also read the exchanges between Rick and law enforcement. What Rick has said all along is that Cindy is in denial and stupid, stupid, stupid. She was a fool for believing her lying, thieving daughter and defending her. He hasn’t accused his sister of plotting against anyone or of absolutely breaking any laws. This is a topic I have been studying and I plan on writing an article on, just like the one I wrote about Lee and the jail conversation with Casey.

In Cindy’s writing, she states that Casey has taken her precious granddaughter away from her. She does not say she is dead. She never wanted to believe that until her body was found. What I am saying here is based on fact, not emotion. If the police acted on emotion, George and Cindy would have been locked up months ago. In the meantime, would you deny that they are grieving for their grandchild? That they are that gutless and heartless? Everything about them is based on what was said before Caylee was discovered. Stupid? Absolutely, but criminal? Let law enforcement decide. That is THEIR job, not ours. What has anyone heard from Cindy since? Who among us has inside information about her reality checks from that day on?

I never said anyone is a moron. All I am saying is that law enforcement is in charge here, not a bunch of vigilantes out to hang George, Cindy, Lee, Baez and everyone else involved in this terrible tragedy. I am just asking for diligence here, not redemption for the Anthonys.

I agree, our exchange is important. I must say, though, that no one in Orlando, where the crime happened in our own back yards, is in an uproar like so many people elsewhere are. That doesn’t mean we don’t care. All it says is that we see it firsthand and through 3 dimensional eyes. We don’t need a Nancy Grace or bitter forums to anger, rile, and stir us into a frenzy. I took people on this tour to show them around Casey’s turf, where she was, where she is and what she has done. It wasn’t to crucify her parents. They have to live with their stupidity, not us and no one here is burning down their house or dragging them into the street. No one will, either.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 11:52 am

See, Dave , You’re right ,I’m a mother i’m emotionally envolved.. But it wasn’t LE that spent days, weeks “spreading the word”

You see, the problem with wanting to manipulate the media and public opinion, it’s that, WE CAN’T STOP IT WHEN DOESN’T SUIT US ANYMORE….

They got me envolved, I cared, I worried. NOW they own me, to have MY OWN OPINION!!!
    I guess that’s all i’m intitled in this…
If something makes me believe otherwise, that they acted correctly, I ‘ll have no problem aknowledging it…
It just, didn’t happen yet, regarding those grandparents…

I understand the judicial system, it’s better to have guylty people free, than inocents locked up.Thats why it requires an undisputible reason to deprive someone from their lyberty….
But this is not always fair…. speccialy when the victim was totally dependeble on others….

(that 3 year old should have put up a fight! second guess that her mother was going to finish her, and save the killer’s dna under her fingers!!!!)

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 12:10 pm

    Dave,
I’m turning to the Obama topic!!
    it’s much more relaxing….

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I guess I look at things pragmatically rather than emotionally. Of course, I’m not even close to being emotionless on this particular murder, but I recognize how easily masses of people can get stirred up and I rather fancy myself a peacekeeper than a trouble maker. If you follow all of this, you see that Leonard Padilla accuses Tim Miller. Tim Miller accuses Leonard Padilla. Jim Hoover accuses Dominic Casey and Dominic Casey accuses Jim Hoover. The list goes on and on and on and on. Who is telling the truth and who is lying? We just don’t know, but clearly, the media, and particularly Nancy Grace, rely on ratings. Ratings increase advertising revenue, so the media is not fair and just. They all play on people’s emotions and the Caylee/Casey case has not escaped anyone’s attention. To be sure, when there is no new news, they make it up. Like I said, we haven’t heard a peep out of George and Cindy since the night on Larry King Live, one day before Caylee’s body was discovered. So now what do we hear? The same things that were hashed out a month ago or more. Believe me, this is not going to go away. I think plenty of people are impatient. They want to see Casey fry. What’s taking so long? Let’s hang the whole family in the meantime.

Caylee Anthony touched a nerve. A lot of people, mothers in particular, would have been more than happy to adopt her before this happened. Only, no one knew about it until after it was too late. If Cindy would have filed for adoption, would we have ever heard of them? No, and Caylee would still be alive. Don’t think for a moment that Cindy didn’t love that little girl, never wanted to see her dead, and kicks herself for not taking action when she should have. She was stupid, stupid, stupid, and it must be haunting her, hence the title of this post.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 12:22 pm

I don’t blame you, but it shouldn’t affect our relationship here. I mean, even married couples don’t always agree and they live together. Just ask Ina.

  • weezie10 // January 19, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Ok, I have had a chance to read the last few days posts. It is rather like a boxing match here, but what better way to churn the juices. First and foremost, again thanks MD for posting all those pics. I stated last time how I felt. It still stays with me, in a haunting nightmare. If and only if, Casey did it, how could she in all honesty, live with herself and deny what happened here. That would be to presume she is a psycho, or at least psychopath. I watched very carefully on Friday, the new videotape between Casey and her parents. She was totally self absorbed, at times snickering at her Mom, flirting with her Dad, all because she knows how to play one against the other. Lord knows how the dynamics worked when they were all under that roof. Given the severity of the crime, I think the parents are in total denial that she could do such a horrendous act, of not only covering up her misdeeds, but actually dumping that poor innocent into the woods! It’s just too terrible to imagine a stranger doing it let alone your own child. I think we are going to see George do the RIGHT THING here, because he has to. It is a code that he worked and lived by; so this will be hardest on him. Now if Cindy decides to choke hold her husband, which could happen (since he is weak), then we will never really know the Casey we have come to despise, other than our own unguided opinions, and misguided by the press. Now the big issue is Lee: He will have nothing to loose once immunity is in place but he HAS TO TESTIFY, no allowance in taking the 5th. The pieces to this sorded puzzle will come out, but a lot of innocent people are going to get bruised and battered because of it. This huge sideshow is growing like a monster and what is going to happen is: the Trial becomes the monster and the little psycho goes to jail.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 4:24 pm

    Hello, weezie10 -

First of all, let me clarify what I think is the reason for any of the Anthonys to ask for immunity. This protects them in many cases in the state of Florida. It is not just meant to keep them from being prosecuted for something wrong or illegal, although I believe they weren’t very forthright at the beginning of the investigation. Suppose they actually did believe Caylee was alive and they stalled the police on information. Now that Caylee is dead, they want to sing a different song. It isn’t unusual for parents to want to protect their children without the benefit of the 5th Amendment, so they stall them and tell them half-truths. Now, they want to clarify certain things; have the police question them again. Why do they need an attorney present? This is a very complex case and I’m sure the police have recommended that they seek legal counsel. It just makes sense and it doesn’t imply guilt. I’m open to opinions here, but even I’ve used attorneys before and I’m no murderer or liar. They know the law better than we do and they want to make sure everything said does not spell a civil suit down the road. For instance, suppose Cindy says she really thought that b*tch Zenaida Gonzalez did it at first. Without protection and immunity, Zenaida Gonzalez might turn around and sue her, when after all, Cindy was quoting it from what her daughter said and she truly wanted to believe her. Language and semantics can play havoc in a court of law.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 4:25 pm

    Wizzie

Don’t worry about our “boxing match” we’re grown up people, and respect others opinions.

I still like Dave (even if he decides to marry Casey!!!)or Cindy ,for that matter!!!

  • weezie10 // January 19, 2009 at 4:31 pm

thanks DM for that explanation. I know about the immunity thing because it was explained on NG, soooo they will have to tell the truth on the stand so be it. If they lie then can they be prosectued for lying?

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 4:35 pm

I just cannot stand the continuing “missing child” BS. They used all the resources of equsearch. But, not everyone could see clearly by then… I can understand.

But still selling shirts, and wanting Caylee to be the poster child for all the missing children….It’s just too much!!

She was never a missing child. She was murdered by her mother!
THIS IS NOT MY OPINION, EVIDENCE SAYS SO!

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 4:39 pm

They are seeking immunity that doesn’t hold water when in court. That is separate, especially if they lie under oath, which they won’t. At least George won’t because his words were so vivid on the recorded interviews. They are seeking immunity for what they say to LE now. Once they step into the courtroom, they can’t perjure themselves or they will face prosecution. There is no such charge during a police interview.

Marry Casey? Or Cindy? Dream on.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 4:43 pm

Evidence says what? That George and Cindy are demanding that Caylee be the poster child for missing children? What evidence?

I haven’t heard a peep out of George and Cindy since Caylee was found. Who says they are demanding that?

  • weezie10 // January 19, 2009 at 5:28 pm

To Drama Queen; Thanks for that U TUBE video. I am always amazed at how many kids and teenagers are missing and that they are not getting atleast one night of exposure on NG. I mean isn’t that a bit unfair and lobsided? Look at those wonderful children, cold, wanting to be home, in most cases. I am just sick. Where are you JOHN WALSH. I know you would do it.
    Weezie

  • weezie10 // January 19, 2009 at 5:31 pm

I never heard that the Anthony’s want Caylee to be a poster for anything. I think they wish this had never happened and that they are living a nightmare. I mean their lives have changed forever. why on earth do they need more enemies like you Filipa. Don’t spread rumours. Let’s try and be within the realm of atleast getting the facts straight before we rant.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:16 pm

Dave, i find that “kid finders” or “kid losers” or whatever a SCAM. Maybe was just bad luck that the Anthonys choose to be associated with such people (I’m not talking about Equsearch, that’s a different thing)

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:21 pm

weezie, since day one this didnt smell right (waiting a month to call LE,etc, etc)

Since then,my suspitions only got comfirmed by events, evidence and demeanour…

Dont take it personally, after all, this is just my humble opinion, that’s what it is.

The jury will have to decide, not me!
But my belief is well expressed above, although english is not my 1st language…

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm

The same way, i find Nancy Grace sensationalism (BOMSHELL,!!!BOMBSHELL) closer to selling fresh sardines, than to solve a crime.
    (again, in my humble opinion)

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm

I don’t know an awful lot about Kid Finders or any of those organizations, but I assure you, they never demanded Caylee be a poster child for anything, Filipa.

Initially, G&C were all for Texas EquuSearch until the organization changed their position to one of searching for a dead instead of missing child. That has always been the crux of the problem with the Anthonys. Law enforcement and EquuSearch switched gears. They knew better. The Anthonys were stupid and still believed Caylee was alive… or wanted to. It made no sense, but George once said he’s got to hang on to that one small thread because otherwise, he loses both a granddaughter and a daughter. We all knew it would end the way it did. They were blind. Thanks. I thought you were mad at me.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:31 pm

    Dave,
this “media thing” is what happened with the Madeleine Mcann “desapearence, exactly…

They went on got the media envolved, travelled the world, THEN

When the police said “listen,we’re not looking, because this child is not missing, evidence says she’s dead!”

Then the Mcanns wanted the media to shut up, and all the people that offered to look for Maddie and afterwards felt abused, to stay quiet…
As the truth uncovered, silence became more suitable than the fuss they were preaching…

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:34 pm

I dont feel bad pointing my finger, because that’s what they did to that poor Zenaida woman, and to kronk, etc

Its not sweet to see the dirt in one’s closet, is it?

  • Coreysmom // January 19, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Dave, you are in my prayers. IIRC, tomorrow you will learn about your tests and your health.
Hopefully, you will have answers and will be on your way to better health.

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Sorry if I got carried away. After all this is YOUR PODIUM!!!

  • Coreysmom // January 19, 2009 at 6:47 pm

    Well, thank you, D ave!
I was confused about the immunity thing! I thought it was for court. It didn’t add up because I’ve heard they can plead the 5th. Now, I didn’t think the 5th applied to the Ant’s but haven’t heard anything to verify that.
Anyway, I thought, why have immunity if you have the 5th to plead?
You have made it all make sense…it’s immunity with LE. Now, I’m off to plaguerize your words! JK…
Still, that smacks of having something to hide.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Listen, Filipa, this is everyone’s podium, not just mine. You have just as much right to speak your mind as me. what would be the point of allowing comments if I expected everyone to agree with me? that would be rather boring. You help bring this blog to life!

I understand about the McCann issue, too. We heard it loud and clear and I thought the same way as I do with this one. Sure, Cindy said a lot of mean things, including about Zenaida, but plenty of other people have said some pretty nasty stuff, too. I haven’t heard anything out of the Anthonys mouths about Kronk. If anything, they thanked him for bringing their granddaughter home. All the Kronk crap came from other people and the media.

My health is much better. I’m going back to the doctor for x-ray results from the pneumonia and my cholesterol, triglycerides in particular, are very high. Thanks for asking. I think I’ll be alive for a while.

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Thank you so much, Coreysmom. Yes, I will find out more tomorrow. Hopefully, the enlarged lymph node will have gone down. I will let you know here or at The Caylee Daily. Speaking of which, look at the “Guest Writers” at the top of the page. You will see a video that DramaQueen and her husband made about Caylee and other missing children. I plan on posting it on the front page on Wednesday.

    Oh, plagiarize away!

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 7:08 pm

Thanx Dave! Are those problems diabetes related??? (You can say the truth, don’t worry about me)

  • Filipa // January 19, 2009 at 7:17 pm

    DAVE
Do you believe that after 2 years of complete silence, now that child neglect and “the missing”? children, the funding issue etc is back in the international headlines:

Now that a private foundation in the UK is including portuguese police in the witness list, in order to reopen the case there,
Mr Jerry Mcann thought it was time to come back to Portugal, for a mini gig looking for “the missing”"…..

  • Marinade Dave // January 19, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Yeah, Filipa, that McCann thing is really strange, too.

    THIS JUST IN!!!
On the local news, Channel 9, WFTV, the one that is the most sensational, it was reported that Jose Baez was paid by a giant media company for something, a book, a movie??? So far, this is just a rumor and NO, it does not have anything to do with George and Cindy, but I’ll bet it’s enough to pay for an appeal, if true.

Also, WFTV is reporting that something found in the Anthony house will prove crucial in the case against Casey. Matching duct tape, probably. Duh, they already said they can match things from the crime scene to the Anthony home and from nowhere else. See? That’s what I mean by sensationalizing the news. This one, we already knew and duh again, Casey DID live there.

The pneumonia could have been from anything, including the diabetes because of some of the health issues involved with the disease, but I doubt it. The enlarged lymph node was either brought on by the pneumonia, or the lymph node caused the pneumonia. I could have caught the pneumonia from an outside source, or it could be related to my blood problem, which is low platelets, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit and anemia. I’m a real mess, but I feel a lot better than I did, so I am very positive about being around for a long time to harass you with my Anthony retorts. Thank you for asking, Filipa. You don’t know how good that makes me feel.

  • Coreysmom // January 19, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Drama Queen will be in tears of happiness for the honor.I will let her know! a big thank you1!

She knows about the video on the “Guest Writer” page and that I’m going to post it on the front page on Wednesday. She sent me an e-mail. She also let me know about the car one today, so you don’t have to let her know or send it to me. I’m also going to set Wednesday’s one up and link to The Caylee Daily. It will have all the tags and categories attached and I figure it will get at least 600 hits on Wednesday alone. Filipa; I was only referring to your comment on the Anthony’s wanting to use Caylee as a poster child. I have never heard any mention of it. If you can show me where it was stated as proof I will shut up. Otherwise I do know and feel how this case has made most of us tear our hair out, what’s left of it, and rant about many things. It’s a free world in our fair lands, thank god for that. I just hate to see the Anthony’s take hits where it isn’t due. But there is no excuse for stubborness on their part. It will in fact backfire, as it has all their life, living with Casey. They are just dumbfounded, blindsided and really plainly in DENIAL of their child being a BAD SEED. I feel a lot of sympathy for them, but in the other turn, I am frustrated, angry and intollerant of their ignorance to the situation. So you see we all have feelings here, I just want to make sure the facts speak for themselves.

MD; you are a mess, so what can we do? I guess your Xmas was not without a few crumy days. I hope your xray’s and other test results come back clean. I know of health issues as I am a member to http://www.blogforacure.com . As I am a breast cancer survivor, I support about 30 people online who are struggling with chemo, radiation, and just hoping to make it through another year if possible. It is the best website I have encountered for support. I would say 90 percent of the people are from U.S. The rest from other lands. It is by far a place that anyone with cancer would want to join. There are many times when you just can’t talk to your family or friends, because they don’t know what you are going through. This is really like group without having to leave your home. For many that is comforting as some can’t really get around all that well. In any case I just wanted to let you know that if there are any of your friends, or if you want to post a link to that site on your website, it might be very useful for those visiting your blog. We even have family and friends of cancer patients blogging. Quite something. I have been a member there for over a year. My handle is Weezie (duh), you can find my history on it if you feel like going. It also lists all cancer members by their own specific cancer in case one wants to find out medical info from people that are similar to one’s self. Just thought I would pass this on, since we are talking about health issues.

No, my tuxedo is a rental. When the limousine picks me up at the airport, I am going to get fitted. Then, off to a VIP dinner with Bruce Willis, Robert Redford and other celebrities. It should be fun.

Actually, I was invited to the Toilet Ball. Or is that Bowl?

But Jose Baez will still visit her. He wants to go to her inaugural ball.

The pics were great and same with the walk through. I felt to some extent that I was with you. It is still pretty shocking that the body was found there, and that it was in that one spot that this poor little girl layed down. It’s a sad sad story.

I have no idea why your comments have gotten stuck in spam, but I will try to keep a closer watch on it.

Thank you very much, Ajlouny. I try to take pride in my work and I want everyone to get the feel of what is going on with this case in Orlando. That you felt like you were with me to some extent is a special compliment.

It is a very sad story and it has captured the hearts of people everywhere, from every walk of life. I had been down that road a couple of months before Caylee disappeared, but it was no longer fresh in my mind, because after she was discovered, I wondered why I hadn’t given those woods any thought. Not that I would have ever wanted recognition, and I feel bad for Roy Kronk because people are frying him in Hell for it. By throwing that bag into the woods, it’s as if Casey (allegedly) just discarded it like a bag of litter. Like she never really cared about her daughter. It’s a shame.

Your comment is very much appreciated.

I have followed this from the beginning. Sometimes it boils down to the simplest of questions. Like in the OJ trial…. Had the prosecution asked some of the neighbors, “how many times have you seen Mr. Simpson (with a 5 car garage), park his vehicle in the street over night…..especially when he’s going away for a weekend?” Maybe the jury could have got that!
In Casey’s case, she claims that someone named Jeffery and (I think it was) Julie are the ones she told about Caley’s disappearance. did that pan out? Did this Jeffery really leave his son with this, so called Nanny too, as she claimed? Never heard an answer to any of that yet. I’d like to know (maybe through Nancy Grace) had anyone…… anyone at all ever met this nanny? I already know that the answer is no!
I feel so sad for the beautiful little girl. I think that the whole thing was over this dysfunctional family and the attention between the granddaughter and grandmother.
Hey…….maybe Casey would have the decency to hang herself???? naaaah, too selfish for that……

    Hello, Jim -

I guess the prosecutor will ask the neighbor on the stand, “How many times has Casey dropped by to borrow your shovel?” which infers that her plan was to bury Caylee. It turns out she was too lazy to do it. She just tossed her in the nearby woods. She probably didn’t have the time or money to put gas in the car to dispose of her elsewhere.

Jeff and Julie didn’t pan out because they don’t exist. That is my opinion, unless the prosecution is holding them back, which I strongly doubt because there would be no reason to. They don’t exist any more than Zenaida. If they did, don’t you think at least one of them would have come forward by now? See, there was no job at Universal, either.

If the death was because of attention, it was because Cindy was paying more attention to Caylee. I’m sure that really disturbed the mentally imbalanced Casey incredibly.

Hanging? I don’t think they allow any items in the cell for her to do that. And yes, she’s way too selfish. Thanks for the comment.

DM; thanks Dave for doing that. I tried to find what you call blogroll but I’m not sure where it is? Help me with this one will you?

By pleasure, Weezie. To the right of the posts I write is a narrow column with categories. At the top right, just below my picture, is my real name. That’s the column I’m talking about. All of the headings (categories) on that side are bold and in caps. Scroll down and you will find the list of links I like under the title BLOGROLL. If you have trouble, don’t be afraid to ask.

Ok DM I found it but I didn’t see anything with a title BLOG FOR A CURE. Or maybe you put the referral under another name.?
Also I just posted the Chicken and Broccoli recipe under Marinades, as promised.
